Whoa, supports all 3G AND 4G bands for Voda, Optus and Telstra, that's awesome.

Edit: Just don't go dipping it in water for fun, like I did with my Z2.. Sony refused warranty on a software update brick due to "Water Damage"

Did the Z2 have IP certification? (This does, even with no port covers!)

      • +2

Yes, it was IP55 and IP58 rated. But they still don't cover water damage. Not sure how they get away with that.

On the plus side, the newer models have waterproof ports and don't need those silly port covers to be properly sealed.

        • +1

Yes but there is still indicators in there that will tell Sony if the device has been submerged and they will refuse warranty.

I got an admission from the 2 staff members at the Vodafone store that they disagreed with Sony after I pointed out the Advertising of the waterproof feature, it did nothing to help my case and I ended up going through insurance.

        • +1

They can't. Samsung tried the same thing with my on my S4 Active. I asked them if they were willing to explain to a magistrate while they don't warrant an advertised feature under the Australian Consumer Law. They accepted it real quick after that.

    • Have you managed to unbrick your Z2? I thought it was close to impossible to hard brick an xperia…always been able to recover using flashtool.

      • It basically is, unless the software update is you flashing the wrong TA partition ;)

        • +3

Never flash TightArse's partition is the rule…

      • I have a z2. ANY particle around the seal on the ports will stop it from properly sealing :( pain in the bum.
Had to send it back to warranty three times:
        - first was my fault, dropped phone multiple times and camera had a permanent blur blob, but lucky no visible damage to metal frame (surprisingly small dent) front and back glass panels,
        - second, had the phone in a bag while showering blasting music. The bag had some water splash into it, the waterproofing failed partially. Phone was functionally fine, but some water vapor got in and there was a blob of water that moved between the proximity sensor, and the main camera (it fogs up), questionable at who was at fault, definitely didn't go swimming in it, but they accepted for warranty.
        - third time was definitely not my fault, power ring fell off.

I don't game with this phone often though, so I have no overheating issues (I'm aware for the 4K video recording it will happen)
        Still love this phone :)

        • Yeaaahh, mine went swimming many times.. Rivers, vegas pools, beaches, great barrier reef just to name a few, it was still perfect condition and working but I hard bricked it and they rejected the warranty for water damage. Got a refurb under insurance but this one is crap and voice calls are terrible so might take it back tomorrow.

  • From the same store, $335.75 for Zenfone 2 4GB/64GB (missing one optus band I think). It's 1080p 5.5", not sure how its other specs compare but looks pretty damn good

    • My concern with the Zenfones is the reports of incompatibility with some apps & non-ARM cpu's. If the had Qualcomm's, id probably own one.

Just a small review, I have this phone. It's a pain (but can be done, look to XDA) to unlock the bootloader/root.
    Camera is ok, nothing special.

It does heat up sometimes with heavy usage like gaming. Feels quite nice to hold as well.

  • Is pink actually pink or is it red?

  • Will this phone get Android M update?

  • This is really good

  • +2

Basically a watered down but newer and cheaper Z3 Compact with slightly bigger screen. nice..

    • +1

I went from a z3 compact to an m4 aqua dual and find it much less responsive. I also find the camera quite slow compared to the z3 compact.

      • Eagerly waiting for the Z5 Compact.. whenever that's gonna be out.

  • My order has just been updated with DHL tracking number - DHL site says:

    • Status updated to:
