    This is one of the ones you can retrofit into a PS4 isn't it?

  • This is the cheapest option for a replacement ps4 2TB HD right? Will it improve load times at all compared to the default PS4 one?

    • +2

      Yes, this is the best value option - you can use it internally in the PS4 or plugged in Externally (for example with a PS4 or Xbox One).

      • +1

        Nice, picked it up. Been waiting for it to hit 99 but $104 is good enough, hitting the upper limit on the 500gig. Cheers

        • +4

          Same here… "He who waits, waits forever."

      • PS4 still doesn't support external HDD's for game installs unfortunately. So unlike the Xbox One, attaching this to your PS4's USB drive will not increase its capacity for games. I read somewhere that people watch movies and play music off the PS4's external HDD's via USB connection so it will still work, just not for games…

  • It's been slightly cheaper recently but it is a good price. https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/208107
    Didn't want to post seeing how Dick has been removing listings of good deals being shared…

    • Yes, it was cheaper by $1 and that was the lowest ever posted price. I'm sure quite a few people missed out on that deal (myself included).

      • +3

        you mean about $9 cheaper ($94.91 vs. $104.30 c&c). This is still a very good deal though apart from the misleading statement you put in large, bold font

        • The original Click & Collect stock sold out quickly, leaving delivery as the last option… which worked out to $1 cheaper than the last deal before it finished.

        • @Xenatos:

          Some places are still C&C. Fortunately for me. They do have a lot of other colors. HMm or are the other colors not the right ones? Eg fatter.

          I'm just pondering now if I upgrade the HDD now lol. Reinstalling the games and downloading all the frigging updates, plus the backup and restore of game data… :)

        • +1

          @Mobe1969:

          Do it ;)

        • @Xenatos:

          Wish I knew about this trick when I replaced my laptop hdd earlier this year. I never even thought of scavenging an external.

        • @Mobe1969:
          Damn it I can't log into paypal to complete checkout. I've tried different browsers, my mobile on wifi, my mobile on 4g.

          My wife and I have had so much trouble with paypal logings just not working the last year. Ever since they disabled mobile login for accounts with secure tokens

          @Mobe1969:
          Just clone your drive

        • @frysie:

          Ah right, I didn't know that would work for a ps4. I thought it might have checks on hdd id or something. I'll research that more. Thanks

        • @Xenatos: possibly at some stores, but they had plenty of stock at Fountain Gate Dick Smith for C&C when the $94 deal was on, I grabbed two drives :)

        • +1

          @Mobe1969:

          I build and configure internet servers for a living and I regularly use a program called Acronis to clone drives. Its a fast way of transferring all your files/data/installed programs from one drive to another, and I find it easier to use than other programs.

        • @unbonkable: Yeah I've heard of acronis. It would work for my laptop. But from a bit of digging, not for a ps4 - it would basically leave me with a 500gb PS4 image that I couldn't resize.

          Good to keep in mind if I want to upgrade my laptop again though.

        • @Mobe1969:
          Use macrium then

  • Dang! I bought the non-slim version last night. Not sure if I can exchange it for the slim version. Is the slim model better?

    • +1

      Affirmative.

  • +2

    stop making me wanting to buy more hard drives that i don't need

    • I can't. I've waited too long for this deal to come back….

  • so tempted but not available at a store near me so gonna wait a little and hopefully they will put the Black one up as well (to match the xb1)……

    • I haven't seen the black one go on sale before (for this price) otherwise I would have purchased black and price matched at Office Works…

      • +2

        Black one available

        edit: just purchased the black one via cashrewards (with their 2.5% cashback - when/if it eventuates)

        Also:

        Blue one available

        Red one available

        Silver one available

        • -1

          Nope. ^ They're not the Slim. Don't get sucked in and buy the wrong one just because it 'reads' similar…

        • +3

          @Xenatos:

          I thought that initially, but the product code (STDR2000300) does match up with the slim

          http://www.seagate.com/au/en/products/laptop-mobile-storage/…

          I still got the white though.

        • -1

          @Mobe1969:

          I wouldn't trust Tricky Dicky… as they could genuinely send you the 'fat' model oppossed to the slim - as the eBay listing does not mention the word 'Slim'.

          Best to stick with what you know and get the white one (as much as we all want colour choice) :)

        • +2

          @Xenatos:

          Crap, crap …..

          …but from the eBay description for each of them:

          "The Seagate(R), Backup Plus Slim Portable Drive is the simple, one-click way to protect and share your entire digital life. Perfect to take on the go, the sleek metal case design allows for the thinnest portable hard drive available with up to 2TB of capacity. It goes anywhere - without getting in your way.

          Back Up Your Stuff - Anytime, Anywhere The Seagate(R), Backup Plus Slim Portable Drive is the simple, one-click way to protect and …."

          and

          "…
          What's Included:
          •Seagate Backup Plus Slim Portable Drive
          •Seagate Dashboard preloaded on drive
          •18 inch (45cm) USB 3.0 cable
          •Quick start guide
          •3-year limited warranty
          •NTFS driver for Mac preloaded on drive"

          They better honour the "Slim" part when I pick it up then. Took a copy of the web page and a screen shot for my records.

        • +1

          @Xenatos:

          I agree better safe than sorry. I got white. But if I did get the wrong one sent I'd raise it with them regards to the SKU being for the slim. It isn't worth the worry though so I'd stick with white (unless only other colours available C&C)

        • +1

          @Mobe1969:

          Thanks for the info on the SKU. Another point to raise when I go pick up what better be my slim black drive.

          At worst I can raise an eBay or PayPal claim as the description states that it is a slim drive and now I can also mention the SKU is for the slim drive.

        • @2getted: Yes, exactly. I don't think there will be any problem, but their listing does show the right SKU in case it is a problem.

        • i saw this and jumped straight onto it without reading the rest of this post….. :(

          hopefully they will honour the product description and give the slim version…..

        • +1

          @wippy:

          Sorry, I can't edit the post to advise of the ?possible? discrepancy.

          But not only does the eBay description state numerous times that it is the slim model and that also the SKU is for the slim model, even the picture is of the slim model for each colour. So I expect them to honour it. I'm going in tomorrow to collect the item and will update as to what happens.

        • @2getted:

          not your fault… i was just so excited for it and worried that i was going to miss out….

          good luck tomorrow… hopefully I'll be able to pick mine up tomorrow and see how it goes….

        • +1

          @Xenatos:

          Just picked up my SLIM Black drive.

          Confirmed with the store that all the coloured units are the slim models! I've neg'd your comment only to highlight this so others won't be put off.

          Took the gamble & it paid of - this time.

        • +2

          @2getted:

          I appreciate the honesty re: the -neg vote… and thanks for the clarification re: the colors.

          I just picked up mine and also confirmed with the store… although they did acknowledge that for some odd reason their eBay store does not mention the word "Slim" on any of the other listed drives… Mmm…

          PS: The white is indeed a Special / Limited Edition and it looks GREAT, so I'm happy either way :)

  • +1

    Thanks OP. I bought one so I can replace my PS4 HDD.

  • +1

    Thank you. On my way

  • Hey these being metal would tend to run cooler right?

    So you could run them on a desktop PC constantly ?

    • That's exactly the plan for me. Using this to replace an older internal 1TB Hard Drive that Windows 10 won't recognise.

  • i'm very much spewing right now. bought a couple for about $130 not long ago (using some left over gift cards), will get TRS but still, these are cheaper altogether.

  • +4

    Don't forget 2.5% cashback brings it down to $100.58 after $3.73 cashback.

  • stock is getting low not many stores available

  • +1

    Thanks. Got this with the 30% off the 500GB PS4. Shitty C&C though, tells me none local so order elsewhere, and then 2 mins later, it's back in stock locally. Ohwell. Still a good deal this plus PS4. Cheers.

  • So can I open this up and use the drive in my laptop? Is there a guide or list as to what kind of external drives can be used this way? Thanks

  • its just gone up in price- now $112

    • $104.30 is still the click & collect price.
      $112.25 is the shipped price. Including $7.95 shipping.

  • Question with using this with a PS4 - can I plug this in via USB, back up my 500GB drive, then remove the drive, install it and it will be fine? Or do I need to backup to another drive, install this into the PS4 then restore it from the other drive? Happy to do either but it would save a lot of fluffing about!

  • Knowing the Wii U is picky with externals, will this work with it (I know I have to use a Y cable, but not sure of the drive itself)?

    • I don't see why not. I'm using an older 320GB drive with a Y cable for the Wii U and works well, this shouldn't be a problem.

  • I just got a call from Dick's shop, they said that white colour is finished, only left blue and black. Hope they are all the same. I was happy with white colour.

  • I bought one online. It said White for me.

    • I did the same, but pick up in store.

  • Same. Used cash rewards to get a further discount. Thank you very much g12345567 :)

    Bought this yesterday and chose C&C (from Top Ryde store NSW).

    Today, got a call from the Top Ryde store and said they don't have any stock available (in store and surrounding stores & all colours !!) and the closest is 200km away ….
    Told him, I can wait until another shipment comes in, but he prefer to process the refund. Rather than wasting my time any longer, I just agreed to get the refund.

    Thanks for the experience DS !!!

    • Oow, that's sucks…

  • Can you stack the 30% and $50 voucher with this ?

    • Checked comments in other posts, cannot combine the 30% with $50 ebay voucher.
      Oh well.

    For those who are wondering from what I can gather.

    The Backup Slim white: Was a special edition colour. It has Backup Plus Slim in big letters on the packaging. Along with Special Edition.

    Seagate Technology plc unveils its special edition Backup Plus Slim portable drive in a fresh white colour, which also offers peace of mind to customers with a 2-year Rescue Data Recovery Service - available exclusively with this special edition in 1TB and 2TB capacities. Seagate Backup Plus Special Edition is available from June-July 2015. Source

    The Other colours Black, Blue, Red & Silver are the standard slim colours. The original packaging didn't have Slim in large letters on the packaging. It just says backup Plus on the packaging and in Smaller letters it says Portable. Slim Metal Design on the packaging. Source. Newer packaging such as the white included the word Slim in large letters.

    • Thank you very much for the clarification.

    • +4

      Nice research there! But apparently the SLIM version do come in colours now :)

      I went to dick smith to pick up both the white and red model. Both are exactly the same. Both red and white have the SLIM in large letters on the packaging.

      I took it out and both are exactly the same size (12.1mm: width very slim for 2TB!). SO yeah. Just the white have some extra foreign language on the front, but they're both Back Up Slim Portable and pretty ,much identical except for colour.

      EDIT: Added PIC http://tinypic.com/view.php?pic=qpgju9&s=8#.Vgz19CuqfPR

      • and I got a blue drive…

  • what case would you recommend for this drive?

    Picked up mine (white) from DSE Ingle Farm today, thank you.!

    • You're welcome, it's a brilliant drive for the money :D
