Returning phone to seller for repair/replacement

Guys, I need your advice on how to deal with returning a phone to the seller on jd.com

Short story is that my right side of the phone stopped working after a week of receiving. I raised a PayPal dispute and after troubleshooting, the seller has asked to mail it back as per the instructions:

"You can send it back to us for refund, you can use post service to send it back, it will be much cheap than express method.
Pls check the following tips before sending it back.
1. Pls use the Post service, do not use DHL/UPS/Fedex/TNT, otherwise parcel will be return by custom.
2. Order number must be written down and put in parcel.
3. Pls send full set of the order.
4. Pls send full set for replacement.
Here is our address:
Contact Name: XXXX
Street Address: XXXX
Country/Region: China
State/Province/County: Guangdong
City: Shenzhen
ZIP/Postal Code: 518101
Local Number: 00-86-NNNNNNNN
We will make refund or give you a better scheme when we get your back parcel.
Please offer us the track number once you send out the cellphone."

What do I do? Am I obliged to pay the postage of this faulty phone? What are my rights? Should I use the PayPal return fee paid feature?

Suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

  • According to their return policy at http://en.jd.com/help/question-18.html, if "Item is not as Described or is of Poor Quality", they will cover your return postage..

    • I should have read this before as I waited two months before lodging my complaint. What about PayPal?

  • I have also bought a Mijue mobile phone from dealmachine. situation is exactly same as yours. They gave me 2 options, 1. to find a local phone repair then they paid for the repair cost. 2. Return the item at my own postage expense they will ship me a new one or refund.

I am tossing up resend another phone and return the faulty phone at my own cost

    • I like Option 1

My Lenovo K3 Note died within the first month bought from seller BJone Limited via JD. Can't turn it on anymore and computer does not detect the device being plugged in. I tried contacting the seller first. I feel like they are delaying their responses on purpose. Took 2 weeks for them to finally give me an answer saying they only cover repairs, not refund even though JD's policy states I can get a refund. So now I'm contacting JD to see what they can do. If that doesn't work, then I'll go via Paypal. If that doesn't work, then I'll get the seller to repair and claim postage via the Paypal return fee paid feature. If THAT doesn't work, then I'll put it down as a learning experience ;)

    • How'd ya go?

      • Surprisingly my first level of defence worked. Things started moving once JD stepped in, though it did take 2-3 months and about 40 messages back and forth with the 2 parties in total to get the refund. Even got my postage fee including insurance refunded in full. With the drop in AUD to USD during the whole saga, I actually made a couple of dollars in profit ;)

Sorry to thread jack a bit but I've been having troubles with my most recent dealings with JD's third party sellers.
Bought a phone from "Carryit Technology" and upon tracking the provided code I found out that Ukraine was the destination of the parcel.
Now,this clearly is not my order and comes after the seller insisting to post it via air mail to Hong Kong and then having it posted from there which took quite a while.

Hoping this is a mix up with tracking numbers but I've got no way of knowing that without the seller actually responding. This is day 3 after numerous messages that did not get a response.

There were also a couple of cases for said phone ordered 13th(?) last December, logged at export security on the 23rd and never heard from again.

Should I just go straight to JD after-sales if they don't show up?

    • Definitely.

Company reside in CHINA is a no go when any order goes wrong, they just not responding any reply, even JD can do whatever they want as they are not an Australian company. If you pay by paypal then just open a case , learn the lesson and no buying from them anymore.

PayPal refunded returns. Might as well use the service right? Less hassle.
