Devices with these all-in-one features are not common, in fact I didn't think they existed, so I've posted for awareness. We needed a HD TV Tuner, DVD Player and USB Player from a single source and this one does the trick! The PVR support is a nice addition.
The unit also has component out which for our purpose was handy. Unfortunately our unit had purple tint on component output, so it's gone back to K-Mart for exchange.
I ran about 15 music videos through it of various different formats mostly 720p and all played. Having said that so did my 6 year old Samsung Plasma.
sorry for my ignorance… but when it says "set top box", does this mean that I can attach it to an old tv that doesn't have a digital tuner… and the tv will now be able to screen digital free-to-air?
Yep, that's what it should do. Probably have to hope both this and the TV have the same inputs (composite most likely).
Though according to the website it doesn't list composite…. which will likely cause an issue.
Yes, providing the tv has either composite, component or HDMI input.
Coles is has a Philips blu-ray player for $49 at the moment
The fact it has HDMI makes it a win. DVD's are old but this would work brilliantly to make a cheap TV on any HDMI computer monitor!

Were you able to test the media format playback range? Did it play every format tried? im very curious about that.
