Legend of Grimrock 2 + about 6 Hidden Games for $12 USD (~ $17.07 AUD) @ Humble Bundle

20

For the price, you'll get (on average) six games each month – all unknown until the moment they're released. Here's how it breaks down:
1 "hot title" game that's less than a year old
1 "highly-acclaimed" game that's one to two years old.
1-2 hit indie games
1-2 "hidden gems" from developers
(Source, seems like they removed it now, here's a link to the webarchive)

I don't like preordering, but in this case, you get Grimrock 2 for basically 50% off, and I'm guessing that they'll probably have a bunch of actually good games the first month to lure people in.

Thought this said 'legends of grimlock'

  • So this is pre-paying for their monthly bundles, not knowing what games they'll be but getting all tiers for that set price?

  • Essentially, though this will no doubt go alongside the weekly and fortnightly bundles. Pre-ordering unknown games in a pot luck manner isn't for me, but I'm sure some people out there will be into it. I'd rather go with $12 per month worth of spending via steam sales.

  • Apparently each bundle unlocks the first friday of every month, so maybe later today we'll see what the games are since they're on US timezone?
It sounds good but I'm not a fan of subscription based stuff especially when I have no idea what I'm getting. I'd also have to see the first few months to see whether the titles are balanced well too. Otherwise the other option is to see what games they release, subscribe then unsubscribe before the month is up.

    • I don't think it's happening this month - they're probably just getting the word out early for the new service. Site mentions "Subscribe before November 6th".

Also: you probably won't be able to do your trick of 'wait and see what games for this month'. From their 'Monthly Bundle FAQ' page:

Once you’re signed up, you can look forward to 11:00AM PST the first Friday of each month as the day new games are unlocked.
The bundle contents will be top-secret until that day.

If you haven't subscribed by the time the games are unlocked, you'll miss out on that month's content (except for the instant-unlock game).
You will be unable to purchase bundles from previous months.

      • That's a pretty awful deal, really. I look forward to the online feedback /popcorn

        • I think it's an 'unknown' deal at this point. Not necessarily awful, but not necessarily good either.

It depends entirely on what you can expect to get and it's not really clear to me (yet) what to expect. So without more information it's a gamble at best, coloured by whether you trust Humble to come up with good deals.

There's no rush, Nov 6th is the date, so I think I'll wait a couple weeks and see if they release any more info.

        • @SuperMatty: the issue with trust towards Humble is that it's subjective, because for me I don't distrust them to put good games in as much as I expect them to put games in that I already have or have no interest in (same thing that happens with PS+ and XBL) but there's people who may love the games or not have them already. I'm happy to wait and see how it goes though and see whether people post what they got. Hopefully Humble don't push the gamble aspect too much with the future subscription bundles though because I just can't get on board with not knowing what I'm buying.

  • Didn't consider this a deal which is why I posted it on the forums. It's a shitty thing by Humble though

    • It's effectively 50% off grimrock
