  can you recommend wine for a present.

  i prefer to get 1 bottle or 3 max for $80-100 but very good famous award winner red pinot
  (not 12 bottles average wine for $50 for example).

    I'm probably not the best person to ask as I'm currently drinking a $3 pinot grigio.

    my philosophy is to buy 10 different clearskins and what ever 2 are the best then buy more of those.

    a $5 wine can taste as good or bad as a $50 wine.

    can't recommend a pinot.

    however a good shiraz - Penfolds Bin 389 Cabernet Shiraz - uncles dans sells it from $59.99.

    It is often referred to as 'Poor Man's Grange' or 'Baby Grange' as it uses the same barrels as grange hermitage.

      im not a good wine drinker too but this is for someone i know drink and know alot about wines, therefore i want to give one special bottle of wine (and he likes pinot)

        check out UNcle Dans site. they have booze reviews (thanks kates) for each bottle.

        like this fulcrum pinot at $18.99 per bottle was given great praise.

        or the Palliser Estate Pencarrow Pinot Noir at $18.99 per bottle also was highly recommended.

        Here is a list of Dan Murphy's pinot noirs as per their ratings.

        from reading half a dozen reviews I'd suggest 3 or 4 wines:
        Palliser Estate Pencarrow Pinot Noir
        fulcrum pinot
        Brassknocker Pinot Noir
        Saint Clair Pinot Noir

        all under $20 but the reviews are very promising. 2 of them from NZ and the other 2 from mornington peninsula (Vic)

        there is the Domaine de la Romanée-Conti La Tâche 2005 but I don't envisage anyone actually drinking a bottle of it.

    ata rangi is generally considered the best pinot in aus/nz :)
