Cheapest Option for Pocket Wi-Fi 4G

Hi Guys

can you help me find the cheapest 4G pocket wifi option (that can be unlocked)
or a cheap 4G phone that I can use solely as a 4G hotspot.

Many Thanks…

  • Depending on what your usage needs are.

At the moment I am running a Huawei Y550 set up with Vodafone ($20 365 expiry) and buying $3 (2GB/one day expiry) data packs as I need them. This works out to be cheaper than running a data sim even if I buy a data pack every day ($90/60GB vs $90/20GB). However in my situation I cannot get ADSL or Cable so I am forced to use 4G all the time. If anyone can suggest a cheaper method please let me know as I am still looking.

  • I am sorted with the plan. Mainly just want to have a cheap unlocked 4G device.

    • Well I can attest to the Y550 as being able to provide fast downloads on the Vodafone network. What plan/carrier are you with? Usually easiest to find the cheap deal with a compatible modem/phone in the normal Coles/Woolworths deals.

      • Amaysim ATM. But then can be vodafone later. That's why I want a device that can be unlocked.
Y550 is $150 at least. Too expensive.
I wanna sound as little as possible for a 4G device.

  • http://www.gearbest.com/cell-phones/pp_234312.html about $112 and you also get a better phone with dual sim. Very unfortunate company name but I've read about them for more than a year and they seem to be a somewhat established player. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I-AchBKZxZs looks decent really.

    • That's a bit expensive. trying to spend not more than $50 so a Cheap 4G pocket wifi would be more fit for purpose.

It's about as cheap as you're going to get. Cheap chinese MTK 4G phone will be the cheapest option at any point in time as they take advantage of mass produced SoCs that integrate 4G modems and they have a larger market driving economies of scale. A 4G 'pocket wifi' is far less useful anyway.

        http://www.gearbest.com/cell-phones/pp_239879.html $104 but again it's dual sim so ( $104 / 2 ) = $52 per 4G modem with a minimum 2 unit purchase.

If you purchase the DOOGEE X5 Pro each of your modems will come with 1GB of RAM as opposed to 512MB per modem above.

        Edit: https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/214129 $29 with 2GB data included.

  • I would try this:

    http://shop.vodafone.com.au/broadband-details/pocket-wifi-4g…

    $30 a month for 8GB of data.

    • I just want the device outright. I already have a plan.

      • What network is the plan with?

        • Optus for now.

  • I have a few MF90 atm, please PM me if you are interested

See https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/214129, the Telstra MF90 on sale tomorrow for $29.
However its locked to Telstra networks and doesn't support Optus 3G 900MHz

It only supports LTE 1800MHz (B3) which should be good for Optus (assuming you have full 4G coverage)

However my best bet would be Vodafone (Huawei) 4G R216, currently $59 from Vodafone
Like other Huawei devices, this one should be unlocked and also supports all major 3G (850/900/2100) and 4G (800/850/1800/2600) networks except the 700MHz

I have purchased a 'cheap' doogee x5pro and it does not work 4G Optus Adelaide metro.

Not impressive either without one of the 3G bandwiths speed wise.my Huawei g510 isn't much slower but it lags in the interface dept more than the dodgey.

    Jipped off :-(

  • 4G vodafone works great but only 3G during calls
