CDICKSMITH30

Seems like the best price anywhere for this at the moment. Apparently does a decent job at upscaling Blu-Ray to 4k according to a couple reviews I have read.

    RRP $599

Most places are selling it for $479, not $599

    • Hence the RRP on the front. I made no mention of the average selling rate but even at $479 it's still well priced at just under $350

      • Hence the RRP on the front.

A bit pointless quoting a price that pretty much nobody is selling this for.

If anything, it misleads a reader into thinking the saving is much greater than it really is…

I have edited the description and added the average selling price. Hopefully that will put your mind at ease.

          I'd already posted a +ve vote…

Still can't decide whether I'd actually use it though? The TV already does pretty much all of this stuff except for playing Blu-Rays..

        • @jv:

Does your TV have a dual tuner? What model is that?

        • +1

          @Boulders:

          Yep, Panasonic CX700A

This player just pretty much duplicates the same features…. Except playing discs…

        • @jv:

DMR-PWT550GL will allow you to access a tuner and/or recorded programs from your PC, tablet and mobile over your LAN/WiFi and view said stream on that device while the wife uses the other tuner to watch her favorite program on the HDMI connected device. Will your LED TV do that?

          yes it does…

  • Well I was looking at the Samsung equivalent and decided to go the Panasonic as apparently the HDDs are pretty reliable and have decent tuners. I have also read that the tuner in the Samsung is not so stable. I was in need of both and the added bonus of 4k upscaling (not sure how good that would be but apparently is pretty decent when used with blu-ray) aswell as the price made me take the plunge. I guess it also frees up a hdmi port. Also, has a multi function which allows you to stream content to another room. Only downfall is from previous models that there was no way of extracting content off the HDD. Couldn't find whether it was enabled with this model.

Can't find a 3rd party review of this unit. Would like to see the rear connections and remote, screen shots of the UI etc (I'm a visual person).
any chance this can be switched to play US Blu discs ?.. and of course the Ultra HD Blu-ray spec is now available for manufacturers so I'm hesitant buying a hardware player that might be out of date very soon (as JV points out if you have a 'smart TV' then the disc play back is probably to main standout feature).

    • Well if you don't need the tuners there is this model which seems to be its standalone player equivalent.

      http://m.ebay.com.au/itm/PANASONIC-SMART-BLURAY-PLAYER-DMP-B…

      $199 - 30% = $139.30

      • I actually don't need either .. I have a cheap working Blu player and a smart TV set up already (thanks OZbargain).. but I'm keen on setting up an ambivision type setup and would need the tuner external to the TV - so this would work well as a replacement device that can feed throught to the TV .. or I could get some sort of receiver… not sure what yet as I only just started looking into it - but this perked up my attention as my TV is a panasonic.

        • Did you order the ambivision as a part of their kickstarter campaign or are you still deciding whether you should order it. Looks pretty neat. I'd like to know if you do have one how you would rate it?

        • @Boulders: Haven't yet. I have a Lightpack unit controlled by a raspberry pi 2 which works well playing files off the network.. but this isn't useful for other sources eg, dvd / tv/ or gaming inputs. There are a lot of hacks to kind of get it working (adding usb video in, wiring stuff together) but ambilight seems to have gotten these into a single unit for only a smallish premium (considering the time I would need to hack and troubleshoot it all) so I am interested .. but I would need a receiver or unit like the above to be the pass-through for the images - hence my interest in the above. Most likley I'll get a receiver unit, then try and hack my Pi set-up to work to save money, fail completely and then buy an ambilight … this should give enough time for more reviews of it to pop up.

Manual has renders of the remote and the back of the unit. Hope that helps a little.

    • and of course the Ultra HD Blu-ray spec is now available for manufacturers

      Oh…. News to me… thanks… Think I'll wait a bit longer…

Graysonline have the model before this the 540 (refurbished or whatever) with 3 month Panasonic warranty for $249 & $20 postage

Once TV's have 2 tuners these will be obsolete as recorders as a USB stick or HDD will allow us to watch one channel and record another
