Kindle Wi-Fi Paperwhite (2nd Generation) $104.30 @ Dick Smith eBay

730
CDICKSMITH30

Was $179 yesterday, but sneaky little dick decides to reduce it to $149 today. Absolute bargain for the paperwhite (lowest price ever I think), $104.3 after you enter in CDICKSMITH30 at checkout, voucher ends midnight.

EDIT: I've also added the Beats pill dude ($13.99) and sleeve ($4.89), which is also the lowest price ever. Though If you own that awful speaker, I can only feel pity for you.

Great deal - but I'm still not jumping. So close! Waiting for the new kindle voyage - expected Nov '15. Kindle keyboard is still going strong ! (and I <3 those physical page turn buttons).

    • Me too, really want that physical button, just need to hold your thumb at the edge and press. The first gen Voyage was 200$ with CDICKSMITH30 last week but they're out of stock I guess.

  • What. I just bought it yesterday for 179 price. Anyway i could get it back?

    • +2

      is it open?

Maybe can buy new one then send it back for refund with old receipt

  • +2

Just to confirm, from what I can tell, this is not the 300ppi version, right?

    • Pretty sure its not as the description says this is 2gb whereas the 300ppi one is 4gb right?

    • +2

No this is the old one, and the name is misleading. Dick Smith should have renamed its listings months ago. The new model is listed here.

      • Doesn't negate the deal. Not misleading either. Nothing wrong with what the OP has posted.

        • +1

Yeah I revoked my neg. OP should change the title to make it clear that this is the old version.

        • @batiudrami:

$84 more for the one you linked and can collect it tomorrow too. Do you think that's a better deal than this one? Is the latest version really that big of an upgrade?

Was thinking of two. Partners Kindle is losing pixels so time for a new one and Ive never owned one myself.

        • @geo365: Honestly I'm not sure, for me the additional pixel density isn't actually a big deal, but some people rave about it. Do the visible pixels on your partner's kindle bother you (when they're working, obviously). If not then this one is a good deal.

        • +1

          @batiudrami:

What should I change the title to? I don't know much about kindles, so even I'm confused by it.

@lyl: Kindle Paperwhite (2nd generation) is your best bet :)

        • +2

@geo365: I own both and the new 300 PPI screen is much better
That being said , u cannot pick the difference unless u r comparing each other side by side and the old gen screen still holds good and battery life is better by 25%

I got it as I read a lot and missus wanted a kindle , so gave her the old one and got myself the newer version

If u don't read a lot , get the older gen and save some money :)

        • @batiudrami:
          Ok thanks, done.

        • @kamban:

Just seen this (I noticed the one that was linked above was the 3G one. I don't need that).

          http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/262039732573

So I've bought two of them for $278.60 with C&C. so about $37 more each compared to the above deal. Happy to pay that, maybe the OP should add that to the title?

        • @geo365: you can't go wrong with either ones mate , happy reading :)

          @kamban:
I own both versions of the Kindle as well, and I think there is a noticeable difference between this version and the 300PPI version. The 300PPI version is super crisp and the lighting on the screen is a lot more even.

Having said that though, this version of the Kindle is still an excellent e-book reader. Use this e-book reader whilst my wife took the 300PPI version.

  • No click and collect for me so its $112.25 including delivery.

Anyone know the likelihood of getting this in the next week seeing as they appear to be out of stock everywhere?

  • Would this be better for reading kindle books rather than using my iPad Air ?

    • +3

Yes, the screen is way better to read than your iPad Air. It's almost like reading a real book. It's less fatiguing for your eyes than to have the LCD backlight of the Air burning your retinas.

    • As verapa said it is heaps better and iPad screens makes ur eyes tired …

Just picked up kindle fire hd 7 (3rd Gen) at Big W Golden grove S.A for $35 each. Not bad for a internet browser/ e-reader

I purchased ours just last week, September 28, from previous OzBargain link, and used the CDSMITH30 code, and also Click & Collect.

Order SubTotal showed $199.00, less discount $59.70 (for CDICKSMITH30) meaning I paid $139.30. So I paid $35 extra, had I known the item would be reduced even further … Aw!

    • +4

Last week's link was for the newest generation (300ppi display), so it is a better kindle than this one

      • +1

Thank you! I was just reading the posted comments and checked the links as you commented.

Although this is another great Kindle deal, I must say I am very happy with the newest 300 PPI display on the version we bought … My senior mother (who has macular degeneration so has been experiencing reading problems) is totally rapt in the new 300PPI Kindle … she is already busy selecting proposed gifts for her coming birthday and Christmas …

The clarity and brightness control feature of the 300 PPI is well worth considering for vision impaired and/or senior readers.

Ps. I also collected the nice feel Paperwhite Leather Cover $64.98 less $19.49 CDICKSMITH30 discount for a total of $45.49. It has a nifty little trick of turning ON when you open the cover.

        • +1

For those on a budget, the majority Kindle covers on eBay advertised the same sleep/wake function starting from $5.95 shipped from Hong Kongbor $11.95 from Sydney. I cannot confirm their quality as I don't own a Kindle.

        • @thangcuoi: I should have mentoned those too; thank you. I also checked prices on eBay; the ones I read said PVC leather (in lieu of imitation leather); so not real leather. As I bought ours as a gift I was happy to pay the extra … I would not like to pay $ 64.98 for one though.

    Sneaky little dick I like…

thanks OP, got the 300 ppi one for 139.30 with click n collect (and cash rewards of ~ $3.48). Keen to try out the kindle lending library

  • no one here keen on Kobos?

    • +2

Not in a Kindle thread, I doubt it.

    • Just submit the deal! I'm sure there would be few interested readers for the right price.

  • Anyone know if this thing can view chinese books?

    • Might have a problems with .txt file but otherwise it's good. I own two kindles and never had any problems reading Chinese..

    • You have a choice to select your language in settings. Cannot vouch for translations though and it would very much depend of individual publishers. Perhaps it may be worthwhile to do a few Google checks.

  • Wow, el cheapo

  • Gone :(

  • I had one in my cart and i spent too long looking at the cases, oh well i got the 300dpi one for $139.30 instead.

  • can anyone please link to a good generic cover for 300 dpi paperwhite. original ones are way overpriced.

    • I used the CDICKSMITH30 code and bought ours (real leather) for $45.49. There are some (PVC leather), with variety of colour options for about $11 on ebay.

  • Thanks. Not interested in original one but will lookup on ebay.
