I've had their 12yo Quinta Ruban but it's not one of my favourites.

    • Ive tried all of them and this one is still the best

      • Could you elaborate on this?

I've got a bunch of Glenmorangie, this was the one that got me into their range, though it is their most basic. Essentially all their range could arguably be called dessert scotches. There is pretty much no peat. They are clean, easy drinking scotches, best enjoyed BEFORE other scotches with noticeable peat.

One of my most favourite scotches ever was the Glenmorangie Astar. It came out at 57.1 % and was still nice neat. That one was done in new oak, and when it sold out, I then missed out getting a bottle of the replacement too. I'm looking forward to not missing out on what might come next…

I also enjoyed the Nectar d'or for quote awhile before discovering the Astar.

As for the others in the Range, the Quinta Rubin, Lasanta, and the 18yo are all okay; Worth trying, but you don't need them on your shelf. In fact the 18yo is less enjoyable than this 10yo (IMHO).

        • I believe 'Frogged1975' has elaborated a lot better than i could but Im not too keen on peaty, smokey whiskeys. I like mine smooth and refreshing thus the original glenmorangie is by far my favorite whiskey. Everyone's pallet is different but that's my 2 cents.

Quinta Ruban is a double cask whiskey + also bottled at 46% so it has a stronger bite than the others. The original is smooth, comparable to Macallan 12YO if you like that kind of whiskey. As a highland whiskey, there is no smoke if that's what you were expecting.

  • Kinda feel the year should be in the title. It's like saying "drill $39" or "Toyota $20k".

    • It's a little bit different. A 10 year old drill or 10 year old Toyota would be far less appealing than when they were new, it's the opposite for good whisky being aged in a barrel.

  • Very gentle highland malt. Subtle, sweet cereal flavor with delicate floral overtones. Glenmorangie (accent on the O) achieve this by using the tallest pot stills in Scotland. A good one for newcomers to whisky. Also, being so inoffensive, it makes a fairly safe scotch to buy as a gift if you're not sure what flavors the recipient likes.

As everyone has said no peat has been used in toasting the malted barley (tho for the Highlands that almost goes without saying) so there is no smoke on the nose at all.
