    Very nicely formatted :)

FYI they have just moved the Sydney flights from Narita to Haneda.

    • +2

That is even better unless you are using JR rail pass.

    • +2

They are also using ooooold 747's. A bunch of them don't have new entertainment systems so you are stuck with the corded remote control and no ability to start/stop when you want.

So, be warned, bring a tablet, ebook reader, handheld gaming device, mp3 player just in case.

      • As well as that, my last flight scheduled on one of those old 747s was cancelled because of aging equipment. They said it was the back up power unit or some such.

        • Auxiliary power unit maybe? Yeah, you wouldn't want to fly without one of those, heh. In fact they're used to start the engines as well, so you probably wouldn't get too far.

      • Actually that's not true anymore, the remaining fleet of 747's are all upgraded to the new panasonic systems.

        • +1

Not when I flew into Haneda from Sydney three weeks ago.

@Mr Wowtrousers: oh you poor thing

        • +2

          @jasonJCU:

I know, right? It's like when I pay $1500 for Australia's airline to fly me somewhere, I expect it to be in a plane made in the last 40 years, for there to be inflight entertaintment that's been standard for about 5 years now, and things like seals on the emergency doors not to be flapping around.

I am a bit of a princess, eh?

  • FYI: none of the drop down options work on android, chrome mobile browser.

Eg can't change amount of: Adults, Children or Infants.

Can select dates and search though.

    • Thanks very much for reporting that. I'll check it out.

  • I had a cursory look around dates in May and couldn't find any direct flights from Mel - NRT. You're better off going Jetstar for cheaper, direct and it's an overnight flight so you're not losing a whole day like on the Qantas flight direct IMHO. Qantas does have a flight in HND which is a better option than NRT but again that is with a stopover and a day flight.

  • Rep, off topic but any deal for direct Mel - HK return flight in Nov? The cheapest I can find was around $830. Now I regret not having taken advantage of the AMEX Qantas voucher cashback..

  • April would be my month of choice to visit Japan/South Korea.

    • Yeah, mid-May to June is getting into rainy season and very, very humid weather.

End of March/beginning of April and cross your fingers that you get cherry blossoms in that time.

  • Looks like very cheap prices for qantas or is that normal for that time of year?
Also wont it be cheaper to go with qantas by comparing their cheapest prices once you get all the addons for jetstar, qantas includes everything doesnt it?
    Blanket, entertainment, meals etc??
Not sure about anyone else but i feel like there is way less room on jetstar flights, anyone else?

    • +3

It's cheap for qantas since you get meals/drinks, blanket/comfort stuff, baggage, entertainment, ff points included but from Melbourne I'd prefer jetstar as the flight is direct and I can bare without the perks for the cheaper jetstar sale price.

The 787 wasn't too bad for personal space/leg room, i find it depends on who is next to you and whether or not they respect your personal space.

    • +1

yeah this is a good deal for Qantas if you don't mind older planes. You get everything included. For the Jetstar tickets which started at $440 return from Sydney it is actually closer to $700 or more after you add 20kg luggage, entertainment and exit row seating (if you like more space). You don't even get a meal for that price and you have to get up very early morning and switch planes at Gold Coast, but at least you get to fly on the new Dreamliner.

  • Can you upgrade these using QFF to business class?

    • Not on sale fares. You can on saver and above.

      • +1

Not through the system, but I've had some success asking at the airport lounge. Any status you've got with Qantas helps.

        • Good to know. I'm a Qantas gold so I should try.

    rip off.
    Jetstar ftw

I'm going to Japan in two weeks.
    $374 return.

I'm bringing family back in Feb 2016
5 seats and 100 KG luggage for ~$620

    • And Direct flight !!

    • why would you downvote this. ok it's not exactly a rip off but it's been cheaper and jetstar are due for another sale soon to fill up their remaining seats. This time last yr they did $600 return to tokyo.

I'd wait a week or 2 and see what they might offer.

  • Has anyone had a good or bad experience with Bravofly or Skypickers (or similar reseller)? I just booked some tickets (not as part of this deal) and Bravofly consistently came up about $300 cheaper than anywhere else (on a $1000 fare). I checked the airline directly and those same flights were about the $1000 mark, which is consistent with sites like Expedia.

I did a few searches and I found quite a number of negative reviews and it's not just in one particular period.. it spans over a number of years - I do realise that it is often only the disgruntled customers that post their stories online, however, lots are really quite bad and what I'd call unacceptable.

So i'm interested in hearing experiences from people here, given the number deals on iwantthatflight.com.au where Bravofly and Skypicker are the cheapest or equally the cheapest.

(Because of the bad reviews, I decided I'd pay the extra and booked with someone else because I didn't want to risk and dramas before or during the trip with a multi-leg flight).

    • +1

Booked through a variety of resellers, never had an issue. Bravo fly I find feels more towards the dodgy end of the spectrum, probably because the price displays in euros. I have booked several times with them no issues however.

  • Almost the same as what I paid for Jetstar return from Perth using the two for one.

Possibly a bit soon to be booking next flights as have only been back for 2 weeks.

  • +1

Pretty rare to see Qantas fares into Tokyo for sub $800, must be finally feeling the heat now that ANA are starting flights on this route.

  • This is a good deal for people from Canberra as there are fares from about $800. Canberra tickets international tickets are rarely around the same price as the major hubs.

    • Good point. I have updated the OP to include flights from Canberra ($743).

    • Just booked two return tickets from Canberra in May next year for $1486. Cheaper than from Sydney- crazy!! :)

  • +1

Cheap prices but the first price results are from bestjet… and apparently booking via them isn't a good idea http://www.productreview.com.au/p/bestjet-com.html

  • Seems like a massive sale across all airlines/compare sites.

I am going next May/June, just wondering, would people recommend booking now or holding off? How frequently are these held?

  • Update: Melb to London to $1119 return inc CC fee:
    http://iwantthatflight.com.au/x2MELLON-Flights-from-Melbourn…

    I have updated the OP

  • Any help finding march flights from Sydney?
I had a look, but couldn't find anything around the deals quoted price.

  • How long are these going to last?

  • Hey Rep. was wondering could i buy ticket for my aunt in Japan, she wants to come to Melbourne from tokyo from 1 May to 1 June. date dosent really matter. thank you very much!

  • Hi rep. I was trying to browse for flights from syd to Tokyo around May 16 buy keep getting service is unavailable error.
