Where to buy macadamias at a good price

Hi All,
I really like macadamias, but they are quiet expensive (around $40 per kilo in Aldi)
Does anyone know where to get them cheaper?

Thank you

  • In December 2014, Nigel, the nutcracker man had nuts in shell for $7 a kilo. NIS in Sydney, if you can find them are $18 plus. The macadamia nuts in small foil packs at Woolworths work out to be about $42 per kilo. See youtube video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fNDSNCG4WtI You can contact Nigel on +61 0417764476 or at [email protected] Email him to check the current price. My daughter bought me Nigel's nutcracker and 2 kilos for Christmas, it is great.

    • Tried to google this guy's website. Turns out he died:

      Who was Nutcracker Man?
      http://creation.com/who-was-nutcracker-man

      LOL. Does he have one?

        funny.
Man, what a terrible site that creation one is.

  • www.macnutswa.com.au has 5kg nuts in shell for $35, but you'll need to pay p&p to your location - this is $25.10 for Sydney/Melbourne, $10.50 for Perth ( for a 5 kg bag, not sure how it varies for other weights/destinations)

  • I was interested in ones without the shell - for less than $40 per /kg. But thanks for the suggestions so far.

  • The reason that the macadamia nuts out of the shell are so expensive is that the shells are so hard, and difficult to remove. To bring the price of shelled macadamia nuts down, you would have to be making a bulk purchase from one of the macadamia nut farms. If you like macadamia nuts, consider the nutcracker mentioned above as made by Nigel Anthony who does not have a website, as far as I know. I have emailed him to get a current price. Have just looked at the website in WA, and the business is for sale. Nigel is based in Queensland.

  • The cheapest I've bought are from the places which sell them loose by weight and even then they're $34 - $36 per kilo. Try bulk health food stores or Scoop Wholefoods.

  • Aldi have a good price.
Up Lismore (Dunoon) way you can get Macadameia nut butter, yum

  • where are you based..

in Sydney, I go to this Greek grocery/ supermarket place on Gardener's road next to Mr Yawns..

they sell really big cracked macadamia nuts for 30-35/kg either salted or unsalted

  • +1

Ok well I've got a source that will be hard to beat - this is the factory outlet shop from the Macadamia Processing Plant at Alphadale near Alstonville in NSW. http://esvc001124.wic001ss.server-shop.com/store/listCategor…

I'm originally from that area and I used to duck into the shop (a lil known local secret) to buy some every now and then - the quality is great and as you'd expect SUPER fresh. I have to say all of the products are very well priced and also a few that look quite interesting (dry roasted paste 2kg for $32! 2.5L Oil for $20!(WW is 250ml for $6))

Postage needs to be factored in but it's pretty reasonable even if you just get a single item. Buy a few and you'll find the price very good e.g averaged over 3 x 1kg bags of roasted nuts it's $35/kg total cost!

Their nuts are all vacuum sealed in very high quality, thick foil packaging so I can assure you that you could buy several and know that they'll still be fresh when you open them.

I think you'll find these deals hard to beat - infact I'm going to order some myself as I'd forgotten how good their prices are (no longer live in the area!).

    Hope this helps, cheers :-)

  • Try a farmers market or open market, they have a good turnover so fresher nuts. Also wholesales places where they sell in bulk. A lot of vegan/vegetarian co ops have good prices

  • If you are looking for the finest macadamia kernels this side of the pacific check out www.miederswell.com This is a tiny boutique processor which processes australian macs and value adds them into lots of different varieties . There is nutbutter ,honey-roasted macadamia nuts ,mac oil ,spiced mac nuts . Pretty much all you'd ever wanted . The kg vac bags are only $35.00 which is a bargain this year seeing that the farmgate prices have gone through the roof due to the chinese buying up all macs they can get hold off. Same as in a lot of other foodindustries by the way. If you are in brisbane then go to the wednesday fresh market in the city . Mieder's Well has a stall there and also has stalls at the gold coast beachfront markets as well as in northern NSW in Byron Bay or Bangalow. This is australia's finest snack.
