TRS Refund for Refurbished Phone?

I'm considering a Refurb phone purchase from mydeal. They have an ABN. Do refurb goods qualify for TRS refund please?

•items that have already been used (in part or in full) in Australia (e.g. food, perfume etc.). It’s ok to use cameras, iPhones, clothing, etc.

    hard to say…
u can use the item but doesn't say if you can buy it refurbished

might depend if the receipt says refurbish or not

As long as there is GST component on your receipt, then you can claim.

  • Just sharing, I bought a refurbished Dell laptop from Dell Outlet. There was a GST component on the invoice and the invoice clearly said "Refurbished" on the line item. My claim got approved at the airport. This was several years ago though, I am unsure whether the rules have changed since.

  • Not a problem at all. Got a claim for a refurbished laptop from ebay (from a local seller with a shop front and an ABN). Receipt said Refurbished as well

  • Claimed for a refurbished Dell earlier this year. As mentioned, you can claim as long as GST is shown on the invoice.

  • Refurbished will be fine

You'll need a receipt with your name and address for purchases over $1000.

The receipt will need to say "Tax Invoice" from what I remember as well.

Just note that the lines for TRS are ridiculous and I almost missed my flight to Europe over a $70 refund. It really is pathetically slow…

You'll need at least an extra hour on top of getting through immigration, security etc etc. (I am in Melbourne for reference.) It took me a good 40 minutes waiting in line

  • Claimed for refurbished laptop twice, once for phone…As long as you show them the item and printed receipt it will be fine.

Side note: Once I have been denied claim because I only had soft copy of receipt.
