Shopping Square: Red Wine Aerator Bottle Pourer (with Stand) - $4.95 (+ Shipping)

40

An inexpensive Acrylic wine aerator … this particular design gets quite good reviews on most other sites (such as Amazon).

One advantage over some other aerator designs is that it allows for one-handed pouring, and so there is less likelihood of accidental spillage.

[Shipping cost varies: it cost me $3.95 to ship to hobart tasmania]

  • Do these actually do anything? Surely the wine is exposed to alot of air once in the glass.

Thats true… but a lot of people don't want to look at a glass of wine for 20 or 30 minutes before sampling.
It can take a lot of time to aerate naturally ..

      • Guess I'm doing it wrong and have never noticed.

They make a difference, I got one like this at Aldi for $3 when they were there

    • +2

They do speed up the breathing process a bit, particularly on varieties like Cabernet Sauvignon

They definitely do something! I've got a Dan Murphy's one for about $20 and it can drastically alter the enjoyment.

HOWEVER - some wines taste WORSE after using the aerator. Had a 2008 shiraz that tasted a lot drier and flavoured when aerated, the same one but 2010 tasted worse than straight from the bottle.

The wife and I pour a touch straight from the bottle in one glass and aerate another and test before always aerating as a default.

If you're a straight whiskey drinker, try aerating your whiskey as you pour it. Can make it smoother and more aromatic.

I drink alot of single malt but not too much wine. Maybe I should pick one of these up.

Thanks for all the information and thanks for posting OP

  • Completely unrelated, but how long does it usually take to receive an order from these guys? I ordered a micro SD card from them on the 26th of last month, still no show.

Last year I bought a micro sd card from them. waited for a long time and found out the mail was lost. Called them up and they sent another one very quickly.

Suggest you to get in touch with them.

caution - these things can't be attached to a goon bag.

    $4.86 delivered on eBay

If you believe that this sort of aeration helps, like myself, I would consider paying $10 for this. I have one and it works well. Don't need to worry about attaching it to the bottle.

    • The first one looks to be exactly the same design/construction/model.

The second is arguably more elegant … but it is also potentially prone to spillage if you happen to overfill the aerator and your glass is a little bit too small ..

Both are good finds .. and seem great value :D

  • can anyone tell me if the clear plastic section at the very base of the pourer (sits inside the bottle, below the rubberised seal) is meant to detach ?
Mine does .. gets left behind in the display cradle when i lift out the unit …. just wondering if i should glue it together permanently …
