Hi guys. I am in the market for a new laptop as was wondering what your thoughts are on the following laptops listed below.

I will be using this for uni and also moderate gaming on the go (lan parties etc etc)

Any feedback would be kindly appreciated :D

  • Get any new Intel Skylake laptop. I quite like MSI and Asus ROG gaming laptops.

They are sooooo good, but the price is a bit high. You might want to get one of the last generation of ROG laptops.

    • Do you think the G551 is a good buy at that price?

      • Not really. There are laptops that are better than that and costs about the same like the new Dell Laptops. I would wait for the Christmas and New Years Sales to get a laptop. Prices will come down as companies try and clear old stock.

  • MSI display is 1600x900. That's a dealbreaker for me.
Asus doesn't have an ssd, although it's likely upgradeable.

I'd go with the Metabox or Asus Rog.

As tendollar said, 6th gen laptops are coming out and likely to cost more, but these are 4th gen.

    • praying that eBay will have a 20% off voucher towards the end of the year haha. I like the RoG for design and its supposedly fantastic cooling system, but I also like the fact that MSI comes with SSD and HDD so i dont need to worry about forking out the extra $$$. All that said, I've heard the MSI can get a tad uncomfortable when gaming due to heat etc etc.

  • Are the new generation ROG laptops due to be released and that's why I can't seem to find much stock around? MSY previously stocked them but don't seem to be restocking anymire.

Also, I can't tell by the model numbers which ones are new and which ones are older generations.

    • Not to sure man. I don't think MSY will be stocking the RoG brand for sometime since most of the lower end laptops have been discontinued (don't take my word for it). We're you looking for a laptop? I ended up opting for the Acer V 15 Nitro. Will be swapping the HDD for an SSD (waiting for a good deal) maybe during or after the holiday period.

      • Yeah, I was also looking for a laptop. I did notice MSY had the Acer Nitros in sale but when I looked up reviews they weren't too favorable. How are you finding it?

        • Its not to bad actually. A tad slow but once I install the SSD it should run like a charm. Installed an SSD on my brothers aspire E14 and its fairly quick. To access the internals are a tad annoying. Need to remove the whole keyboard which is a hassle but once you do it, it's fairly simple.
