620
$69L?$BP2FGJMJ

I've been looking for a circa $1800 gaming laptop and I believe this is the best bang for buck at the moment. Similar to this expired deal https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/194026 except now with Skylake CPUs

Specs are:

  • 6th Generation Intel® Core™ i7-6700HQ Processor
  • Windows 10 Home
  • 8GB Memory
  • NVIDIA® GeForce® GTX 970M with 3GB GDDR5
  • 1TB hdd

First go to cashrewards and sign in then follow the link to Alienware.
Choose laptops then choose New 15.6" under Alienware 15
There are a few laptops listed, we'll be customising the first laptop that costs $1999

  • Change the Processor to i7
  • Change the GPU to the 970m - total will change to $2,224.50
  • Go to checkout and apply the coupon code $69L?$BP2FGJMJ.

Total will now be $1,890.81 - cashrewards indicated I should get 85.95 back (although 5.5% should be 94.54?)

You can also add a 128GB SSD for a total of 1984.33

  • The coupon says: "15% off Dell branded systems over $1600 (ANZ)"

    • +5

Yeah I wondered if it would work but it did, I think alienware is a dell brand so it counts

    • Alienware is a part of Dell, just to let you know.

      • Yes, it's true. But if the deal is wider than the specific item mentioned, it can't hurt to mention the underlying deal.

  • +5

Add a SSD and you've got a good gaming machine under $2k.
    Nice find.

  • +5

It's quite bizarre to see that modifying the configuration of the cheaper laptop to equal that of the most expensive one will be $338 cheaper. That's a lot of cash savings for three minutes of fiddling with drop down boxes…

    http://www.megabuy.com.au/asus-gl552vw-dm210t-intel-core-i7-…

bad reviews for the site but… dat deal dough.

    • The deal is straight from Dell isn't it? What megabuy gotta do with it?

      • +3

He linked an alternative laptop, but the seller doesn't have the best reputation.

        • Ah I see. The Asus he linked got last gen gtx960 though.

        • +5

          @volturee:

what?! there are different gens of the gtx 960m?

or are you talking about the 960m being the slower ver. of 970m

        • -4

          @elemindreda:

960 is the last generation. 970-980 are the top current gtx cards

        • +8

          @volturee:

Thats just wrong. The 960, 970, 980 are the same generation.

        • +1

@cheesecactus: yup u r right. Last gen start with 8xx.

    • Gtx 960 though

    • +2

GTX960M is much lower power than GTX970M in terms of gaming. Just not comparable.

    • buy straight from Dell, you are going to need that after sales service. I have an alienware, it is a good rig, but me and everyone I know with one, had a HDD fail within the first 6 months. Once I replaced it with a fresh one sent by Dell, it has worked trouble-free ever since.

  • Great deal. Dell refurbished with similar spec was going for 2300 the last months i checked. Those usually came with 16gb ram and 128Gb ssd though

    • I bought a 17" recently, some 15's with 970m for ~1500-1600 with SSD on offer from time to time

  • interesting, the customer built is cheaper than default config

How does this one compare? It's the "older" model but the CPU seems better? but it's much cheaper

    • +1

worse CPU (last gen i5) and only a GTX 965m not a 970m. Also you can't apply the 15% coupon to these (you loose the other discount).

  • I have an Alienware 15 laptop bought this year (with an i7-4720HQ processor and a 128GB SSD in addition to the 1TB HDD though; the other specs are the same). :) I definitely recommend it.

  • Features::
    - LCD could be upto : 15.6" UHD (3840x2160)

    This website hurts my eyes.

      The goggles do nothing?

  • As a noob is this a good laptop for the price? I am assuming it will also edit HD videos just fine

    • Powerful enough for video editing (4K should be OK too), but don't think the screen size is good for that tbh, unless you're connecting it to an external monitor.

      • Thanks. No plans to connect it to an external monitor, but was just wondering if there are other laptops in the same/similar price range and value. Such as Asus ROG laptops maybe?

Also apparently I can't make custom configurations on mobile.

        • It's a good laptop for the price. But not really very portable, due to its large size and weight. If you don't need the portability, save $800 and get a desktop.

  • Would this be good for design programs like Grasshopper, Rhino, Vray, etc

    • yes, I run Unreal Engine, 3DS Max and various other hungry programs with mine, I do have 32gB of RAM though, add as much RAM as you can afford.

  • +1

Great find! :) Got my refurbished one few months ago (4k, GTX980m, i7-4710HQ, 750gb hdd) for 1799. lucky ssds are cheap.

  • get the alienware amplifier next year when pascal gpu's come out and would extend the life even more…

    • WHat is that? And do you mean this laptop's life will be extended?

  • +3

Seriously why would someone spend so much money on "gaming laptop"? It's not like you gonna game full on everywhere you go unless you're a professional player I guess? Wouldn't full gaming desktop makes more sense? 1800+ can get you probably the best in the world out there for sure.. plus you can hook it up to better screen..just puzzling!

    • +1

Because laptops are much easier to carry than desktops and take up a lot less space

      • -1

That and if you get the external GPU unit, it can effectively be a dock type system, have your KB+ Mouse + monitor on the eGPU, you plug in the laptop and power and you have a full desktop PC.

And if you load the eGPU with a 980 etc it would be quite powerful.

      • these babies are not made to traipse about town with, they are very heavy and I use a rolling suitcase to transport mine, but they do make it easy to transport your work to another venue, therefore giving you a powerful rig wherever you go, but I would not take it anywhere unless I really needed it's horsepower. The battery life is short - approx 2 hours.

    • +1

Pretty much what abadacus said. There are people who want something that's comparable to a desktop but needs to move from places to places (not just cities to cities but from a country to another country as well).

Though, I do agree that it's likely to be better to have a desktop and a light laptop than a laptop for both in many cases. A gaming laptop has its advantages though.

    • +1

I travel overseas and interstate a lot. I like to have my gaming collection with me as I travel.
(I also like a laptop with a relatively powerful quad core processor so that I can run several computationally-intensive scientific processes on it at once.)

    • +1

Used to have m17x R2 dual 5870 1200p..bought for around 3.5k.. after 4 years, the laptop couldn't handle games like BF3 or BF4 anymore. So i sold the beast and get a monster desktop, 3 1200p monitors..4x r9 290x.. man… I never regret for selling the damn thing.. although it's really handy when you travel overseas, like I could play games in the airport with that thing..but still its damn heavy.. so conclusion is.. no more gaming laptop for me.. I have ultrabook now for travelling..

    • you have obviously never gamed 'in bed'

it's like the best thing since beer or coke showers.. the drink not the drug haha lol.. ;)

just imagine gaming in bed, eating in bed, drinking in bed, sleeping in bed haha lol

it's not for everybody but if you like comfort and relaxing like me and my other fellow bed/bedroom gamers.. then haha yeah you will enjoy it.. ;)

trust me try it.. it's the best.. don't settle for less ;)

      • You still need a laptop lap stand no? Plus the awkward position of mouse. Just can't see how I would be more comfortable on bed compared to a comfy leather high back chair with 5.1 surround system …just doesn't sell, no sorry lol..stop wasting your money I say unless you're millionaire pro gamer..;P

        • you need to be really really in love and relaxed in your bed haha for this concept to work.. so super duper lazy gamers haha lol.. or say you dont wanna 'wake up' and get out of bed and it's sunday morning kind of thing.. definitely for the 'up and go' kind of player haha lol.

I must admit it does take a kind of getting used too.. it would be like gaming on say a beach chair just more cushiony and 'horizontal' haha lol.

I personally love it for watching movies/tv series/youtube/etc reading and playing some turn-based games or watching 'twitch' streams haha lol.. for fps games its more of just for fun haha lol.. definitely well i think not for the serious pro gamer.. but hey who knows.. we may see a new 'bed gamer' soon in the near future if my weird ways catch on haha ;)

edit: think hospital bed gamer/gaming haha lol :P or just plain reading or watching

got alienware 18 r2 last yr and this yr the new 18inch all have same problems always driver problems or something else, not best support. For the price you get get a better spec laptop

    • Dell finally released a new batch of driver updates and BIOS flashes for the Alienware series. They did take their time though, it is like they refused to acknowledge Win 8 even existed.

  • +1

The cash rewards applies to the amount exclusive of tax, i.e. 94.54 less tax = 85.95

  • How does Alienware compare to Asus ROG laptops?

  • rarely hear alienware as bang for buck but this is great

  • Waiting for the new ASUS g752 series - starting at $1499 on preorder only at the moment…but up to $3500 for shiny RAM = 64Gb version (could you run SAP HANA from this thing? :)
    http://store.asus.com/us/category/A38824

Note: all are 17" screens…no details on config variations…previous ASUS ROG variant was gaming laptop of choice
Gaming laptop = performance = heavy and low battery life (c.f. ultrabook…think 3-4 hrs vs 8-10 hrs)

No idea about pricing for AUS…

  • why not get the stock 17 inch with every thing that your 15 inch build offer - for the same price but larger screen and better cooling( fit larger fan and heat pipe )

    • 17 inch starts at $2799?

  • FYI - the new 980 ( non 980M) should be coming out soon . Last year i got a free upgrade 770 to 780 when the new 800's card came out . atm they are offering free SSD and 12 gb ram …. so i am waiting for 980 special or free upgrade for 970m to 980m or cheap deal on 980

    • Going to be very different price

  • Heads up, code also works for the new Dell XPS 15 and the Alienware R2 13.3. The mid spec model of the 13.3 also comes with a free ram upgrade as well.

  • Great effort and fantastic deal. I needed something with video card and 6th Gen without weight of Alienware. Any suggestions.

Thanks OP! Bought one for my brother.
Will be travelling soon, so will be able to claim the GST back through TRS, which brings it down to $1,632.97!

  • Bought one yesterday, it says the laptop will deliver on 17/10/2015
    Anyone got their order yet?

    • But hasn't the deal expired?

      • I bought yesterday, the code was still working, you can have a try

        • Nope, definitely expired.
