      Absolutely. Considering it as a way to get a bit more life out of my 2011 MacBook Pro. With the dollar falling and Apple prices going up as a result, throwing an SSD into my current system seems like a fairly attractive option right now to extend its life.

        I replaced the optical drive with an SSD for my 2011 Macbook Pro. Reformatted and installed the OS onto the SSD and just leave the old HDD for music and movies. It was running very slow before, now boots up in 10 seconds. For only around 100 bucks and a couple of youtube tutorials it was totally worth it

          Yeah considered that but I think I'd like to keep the optical drive. Once the 1TB drives drop a bit further I might bite but. Currently have a 1TB mechanical drive (Seagate SSHD) and wouldn't want to lose any capacity.

          @Smigit: You can buy an adaptor for your optical drive once you take out that — I am using a 2012 macbook pro and changed optical drive to my original HDD and put a SSD in the tray, worked just great, and you are keeping your optical drive as well for occasional use.

    Cheapest for 2TBs on Staticice is around $965. And it's above the GST limits through Amazon, so not worth it for the Amex deal…
