Maybe it's the price of Australian garlic… I can't find Australian garlic in the supermarkets, only smaller grocers.

Though they describe it as oriental.
The colour of garlic been purple, means it's not much different to white garlic according to a quick search online:

  most supermarkets cater to the person who doesnt care where something like this comes from.. nor would they pay 26 bucks a kilo for an aussie product vs 5 bucks a kilo for a chinese product.
