Newegg to start shipping from within Australia

Summary: This Monday they'll start with drop shipping from distributors and eventually from their own warehouse.

To be honest I'd be surprised if they make a noticeable difference to the computer part market. Margins are already thin there. Although if they can line up more local rebates that'll be interesting.

  • Will be interesting to see how they go here in ozstraya. I used to buy stuff from them 10 years ago when I lived in Japan. they were cheaper (and easier) to deal with than the local pers comp shop.

  • They'll be competing with MSY and PCCG that are already well established so it'll be hard for them unless the price is right. I'm sure we'll be seeing SE competing in the future.

  • shitty dollar wouldn't make things that much better.

The prices on the site are competitive for the items I looked at. An i5 6500 ($288) and a Gigabyte motherboard ($134), but the shipping is ridiculous. Over $62 shipping for those two items. Or singularly, $32 in shipping alone for the CPU and $44 for the MoBo.

    • They don't start their Aussie operations til tomorrow…

      • The articles I've seen say 1st of November.
I'll check back tomorrow and see if there is any change in shipping charges.

        • Couldn't see any changes to their charges today, and the items still seem to be covered by their international returns policy, which looks substantially worse than ACCC consumer protections.

        • @Xenocaust: Looks to me like it didn't launch. If you scroll to the bottom of the page the only Shop by Region options are US, China, Canada and Taiwan.

It's looking like the article was total bullhonky. The shipping prices and the fact it talks about International shipping and WorldSaver shipping when you try and checkout must mean it's just not happening.
