Disappointed with Cashrewards - 4% eBay promotion

So I ended up buying a TV from TGG eBay during the 4% CashRewards promotion. I put through the transacation as I have previously done ~30 times ensuring that I follow the correct procedure, I even took a screenshot showing the CashRewards and eBay tabs.

Unlike the previous ~30 transactions which were mostly $5 - $100 purchases, this one was for $2500 with an expected $100 cashback. However for this transaction I did not receive a tracking email and upon making an enquiry with CashRewards I received a template response stating that my purchase was not tracked and there is nothing that can be done.

I find it strange that 29/30 transactions were successful but the 1 which cost more then the 29 combined failed.

Has anyone else experienced this issue during the 4% promotion?

has your item been marked as 'posted'. I find that is one of the main criteria. In anycase we now have an insider (tightarse) working at cashrewards who should help you out

Too bad TA isn't complaints manager, though I don't see one getting much out of a tight arse :)

I picked it up on the same day. I also have received tracking emails for purchases before and after this one.

I believe my current track record with trying to claim cashback with cashrewards on ebay is currently about 6 successful, 15-20 unsuccessful…

I actually had the exact same issue :) purchased a TV, it was also $2500 and i did not receive my cashback..

"apparently ebay didnt track it for CW"

    they steal your cashrewards probably

Happened too many times in my experience too. And it only happens on rather high value purchases. CashRewards is a very very dodgy company!!!

Most of my ebay purchases lately haven't even shown up lately, this is the reply I recieved.

" Thank you for your enquiry.

Cashback may take up to 7 days to be reported in full to your account. Please see the store page outlining the time-frame for cashback to be confirmed. As this date of purchase is not yet 7 days past, please allow a few more days for any valid cashback to be reported in your account.

Please note that eBay has a 'No Enquiry Policy' (as listed under Special Terms on their store page), so if cashback still has not been awarded to your account 7 days after the date of purchase; something has gone wrong along the way, and your transaction hasn't tracked. If this occurs, we are unable to award cashback rewards for your purchase. Please see the store page for more information.

If we can be of any further assistance in the meantime, please reply to this email and thank you using Cashrewards when you shop online.

    Kind Regards,
    John

Hi Olokun, any new update on this?

CashRewards' cashback have been working perfectly fine on my $10 and $20 purchases. But in the last 1 month, my 3 eBay purchases of $500, $500 and $400 did not track and when queried, they came up with the same lame excuses as what's posted by Frondono above. My take: fully agree with Shadowrukia, I think they kept the cashback.

    • +2

      No update…

I think that if they want customers to trust their service they need to change the way purchases are tracked. It is unreasonable to ask people to trust that it will just work.

There needs to be some guarantee that a purchase is being tracked before you press the pay button.

The feeling I get is that Cashrewards are only going to give you token amounts on small purchases. All they are after is traffic through their site. Traffic on a promise of cash back. Once they have the traffic, they will on sell.

Has anyone found ShopandMint or Pricepal to be any better with larger transactions? I've had a $150 and a $700 purchase not picked up, when using the exact same methods as every other purchase that worked.

    • +2

      IME

ShopandMint: I do not bother with this as you will only get paid once your cashback amounts reach $50, which can take a while for some people.

CashRewards: Great for your smaller value purchases, but as reported by some members, lots of their high value purchases (and my 3 purchases totalling $1,400) do not track properly and go "missing". Also you get paid once your cashback reach $5.

Pricepal: Cashback rates are generally lower than CashRewards. However my experience with them has been excellent - all purchases have tracked properly, cashback paid accordingly etc. Cashback is paid monthly, and you do not have to reach a certain limit before it can be paid out.

Given my recent experience with CashRewards, I will stick with PricePal from now on. I do not mind the lower rate as long as I know that I will get paid in the end.

  • Thanks for this info…i just signed up with them, but if its hit and miss id rather not give them all my info and shopping habits.
    Ill take my name off.

Andrew from Cashrewards here. Whilst 95% plus of purchases track perfectly issues sometimes do occur if cashback guidelines are not followed.

Btw -If you don't follow the guidelines and your purchase does not track it will generally not make any difference which cashback website you are using as the tracking process works in exactly the same way for all cashback websites.

You can be assured Cashrewards do not remove high value items transactions, I swear to this. This would be a criminal thing to do and is an offensive suggestion. Many thousands of OzB's will attest to receiving high value cashback on large purchases.

Hundreds of thousands of purchases made by Australians are now earning cashback on the things they are already buying. Understandably our members are really disappointed when it doesn't work for them. We always welcome your feedback.

      Hi Andrew,

Thank you for your response. However from a customers point of view it is not reassuring as a customer can not confirm that an order has been tracked correctly before the 'pay' button is pressed. Even though I have made 30+ purchases, only 1 has not tracked even though I have always followed the same process on the same PC using the same browser etc. The only difference on this occasion was the value of transaction being $2500.

On the flip side, with other successful transactions (which only gave a few cents) I was able to navigate to multiple sites across tabs etc and still be tracked.

Do you have plans on improving the customer experience where the customer can be guaranteed that a cashback will be tracked or do you expect us to cross our fingers each time?

edit: not even safe with screenshots

        • I think you are scamming the payments for yourself.

Oh please keep these thoughts to yourself unless you have something to back up your accusations.

Even though I had an issue with 1 transaction of high value, I do not for 1 second think there is anything deliberate on CR part in the transaction not being tracked. If anything I think it would be eBay causing the issue which also means that CR miss out on their commission even though they brought the traffic to eBay via their website.

As per my posts in this thread, my concerns are only around the method that transactions are tracked where the customer has no way of knowing if it will be until it is too late.

I have every respect for Andrew and the CR team and I have been quiet satisfied with the communication and responses that I have received since I have raised my issue.

        • @Olokun: Thanks Olokun, we are looking at various ways to improve our systems, communications and our service to members. This comment here from Scotty outlines the issues we have to work with https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/219624#comment-3213356

      Hi Andrew

Appreciate your time in responding so hopefully you can clarify - specifically with regards to Ebay purchases.

For Ebay transactions and assuming the correct cashrewards process is followed - does the tracking rely only on the purchase of the item or does the vendor need to mark the item as shipped or collected or perform anything on their end.

Reason I ask is that 3 similar collect from store Ebay transactions placed in same browser session - only 1 was tracked. Purchased from Good Guys ebay store on last 4% promo. All large transactions so leaves a bitter taste in my mouth when all the correct processes seem to have been followed

    • +3

      Thanks for your reply.

With my purchases, I know 110% sure that it's not because I did not follow the guidelines. I am very anal on this - i.e. for every purchase I make, I would have repeated the steps (i.e. clicking the "go to the store" link from your website) at least 3 times just to make sure that the tracking is established and I do not miss any step in the process.

So there must be something else at the CR's end causing this. Coincidentally the missing transactions were only of those high value purchases.

Ive had a dissappointing experience with Cashrewards too, I made a purchase on ebay around the 12.30pm mark on the 27/10/15 (the last targetsale on ebay) when the cashrewards was about 2.5%, they later increased it to 3% the same day.

I politely emailed their customer support if i did qualify for the better cashback, i was advised i was not because the 3% only became active at 5.00pm.

This is quite annoying since they are happily honouring the better cashback for all purchases for this deal https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/218865

I had my eBay transaction of $1200 tracked fine through cash rewards. Was my first purchase through them and worked exactly as expected. I doubt there's a conspiracy…

    • +2

I am not suggesting that there is. More likely flaws with how page visits are tracked.

It is also likely that CR also miss out on their commission even though eBay get the sale. So it is a lose lose situation and should be in CR interest to fix this if they want to maintain their customer base.

Why can't cash rewards just show the URL being used to track instead of clicking a button to forward to a site and hope it works? Every affiliate site I have ever used uses the URL to identify the account, and assuming the CR/ebay is that same it is a lot more reliable to paste your unique URL in and see exactly what address you are accessing.

    • -1

Because of the way cashback tracking works every URL for every member is unique and contains an encrypted reference to the members ID with which we use to identify precisely which member made the transaction. Does this answer your question?

  • I bought a $900 Note 5 and it showed up a day after.

  • I've been particular about using the recommended technique to get cash back. All of mine had been tracked. I've had about ten. The last two purchases were off eBay for over $3000. Works perfectly for me.

Just thought I'd share my experiences.

I do agree that it would be good to see things are being tracked prior to purchase

  • only 3 of 10+ purchases have tracked for me, i think i'm wasting my time.

The last 2 purchases were from dan murphy's. I goto cashrewards, login, search for dan, click go to store, search for cruisers (not for me) click buy. How can that not track…
