Any Future Plans for OzBargain to Have Its Own Cashback Engine ?

The Cashback domain seems to be a big business when it comes to online shopping. Does ozbargain have any future plan to integrate its own cashback engine in the deal posts.

Cashback is definitely not the area I would want to get into. It's a data-consolidation & customer support business. Integrating with the affiliate networks is easy. However getting the transaction matched up and resolving any disputes — gives me headache even when I just think about it. I am more than happy to continue to send traffic to CashRewards, PricePal and Qwibble (and others that we have planned).

Another thing to note is "revenue is not everything". Thankfully OzBargain has generated enough to support myself & my staffs so I don't need to think too much about cashflow & can focus on building the site.

Heh, in my highly unqualified opinion I would've thought the first part is what makes the second part automatic and easy. Still, that's why scotty runs a site and I make comments about it ;)

    • Different affiliate networks have different format, and even the same network might track differently depending on the merchants as well (some on impression, some by clicks, and some also pass through an intermediate agency tracker). It's all good when things get automated and transactions come through, but

      • Not all purchases get tracked for some reason. It could be the shoppers' fault (didn't use the cash back links properly, adblocker didn't load the tracking pixel, etc), or the affiliate network's fault. Sometimes it can even be merchants' fault, e.g. technical issues in the cart that didn't serve the tracking pixel).

      • Not all tracked sales get paid. For example an exclusive sale that's attributed to a different publisher, unauthorised coupon code, returned products, etc.

The end result is the same — shoppers don't get paid, and from the shoppers view it's all cash back website's fault. Some might even call them scams, although is usually far from truth.

Anyway. I simply don't have time and resource for these.
