Nexus 6 screen repair

Got my Nexus 6 last month when they were getting cheaper and I've already cracked the screen. Anyone got any recommendations for repairing/replacing the screen. I'm getting quoted around $330 from phone repair shops.
Would selling it on and buying a new phone be cheaper than getting it repaired? I'm not very taken with the phone right now, seeing as it is so slippery and smashed from a ~15cm drop.

    ifixit guide
replace LCD + touchscreen US$173.70 delivered from aliexpress

the display is fused to the digitizer glass so you can't just buy the digitiser only and replace that. you need to replace the whole thing.

Please buy a 'branded' case next time you buy a new phone.
My Nexus was housed in a cheap $2 TPU case off Ebay, but I dropped it onto carpet which caused a cracked screen.
Took a couple of hours to perform the transplant (hardest part was getting the back off actually)

You know, looking at that ifixit guide it seems possible to do it myself. I had ruled out fixing it myself because I've completely wrecked an iPad trying to replace the screen.
Also to anyone who owns a Nexus 6, put a case on it. The phone is so large and slippery like a bar of soap it's just an accident waiting to happen.

I used the Nexus 5 guide from the same folks, and I bought a digitiser/screen off ebay.
Total cost : ~100 (was quoted +$200 at a phone repair store)
Not sure if the Nexus 6 is the same, but I found it incredibly hard to get the back off. The guide recommend an opening pick, but you can also use a guitar pick.
I had neither, so I used old credit cards to pry it off. I also used a hair dryer to soften the adhesive.
Youtube guide looks pretty straight forward.
Just take your time and don't rush.
Don't forget the on/off and volume buttons

That's AU$250 already, really not that different compared to the OP's quote…
I've got a friend that has a nexus 6 and he cracked the screen as well, he ended up just contacting Moto for help and they fixed the phone for about $250, so I guess that would be a better option for OP since it's the same price as buying the screen and no need to fix the phone himself.

      • I've sent an email off to Motorola, hopefully they respond soon.
Do you remember exactly how much your friend paid? How long did it take Motorola to fix and return? Time is a factor here, as well as cost.

He said $250, and took about a week.

        • Okay, that seems like the best option, considering it costs just as much as a new screen and its genuine. My only concern is they will remove my custom skin on the back. It's a wooden engraved backing, hopefully they'll be accommodating.

  • Wow, that's unlucky!!

Mine slipped out of a hole in my pocket while I was riding my bike and survived being kicked out into the middle of the road on the way down!

Just an update, Motorola quoted me $215 repair plus a $45 'assessment fee'.
My phones with them right now I'll update again to let you know how long they take to fix it.

So, I ended up paying $236.50 to get my phone fixed. I'm glad it was less than they quoted me.
It's with the courier right now and will be here tomorrow. So it took exactly three weeks from the time I posted it to the time I will receive it.
After someone told me earlier that it took their friend a week to get their phone fixed that's how long I was expecting. I didn't delay paying or accepting the quote for too long, they're just that slow.

    • got a LG G3 screen replaced a few weeks back, was $200 so your price is reasonable (still upsetting though)
