NB, this only comes with a 2A power supply.

    • not familiar with usb hub power requirements. is this a concern? I suppose it can only power so many extra devices at 2A, how do we get a more powerful power supply? Can you recommend an alternate?

USB hubs are not created for the purpose of charging devices, it's for connecting input devices and storage devices to your computer. Most don't deliver enough power for you to use all 7 ports for charging.

If you want to charge your devices quickly I recommend one of the many multi-port USB chargers already posted before, Tronsmart, Anker etc.

i didn't mean to charge devices. I meant for the purpose of powering devices like pocket hard drives and what ever else that will run off of it. I woudn't have given this a second thought if it weren't for futaris' "NB"… just wanted to understand why he is highlighting it.

          i personally have a tronsmart 5 port QC2 charger :)

          @nerd1:

Depends on what you are plugging into the USB 3.0 ports.

For example, you probably couldn't run a lot of 2.5" portable hard drives off this.

        • @futaris:

For reference, I've ran a 2.5" portable hard drive (2tb WD IIRC) from one of these, so it's certainly possible.

          @nerd1:

Back when USB3 was being formulated, the HDD manufacturers asked that the power spec be raised to 900mA per port, for portable hard drives. That is the spec now, so with the 2A power supply this comes with, you probably can't power more than two HDDs per hub, and you would have to leave the other ports unused.

@ausmechkeyboards: I think futaris said you couldn't run a couple of portable hard drives.

        • @Russ
          Thanks Russ, this explains it.

        • @cowiie:

I think there was something lost in translation. I thought by he was referring to brands with products that support the low energy requirements, hence my comment :P

You're both definitely right: you can run one, but probably not more than one.

        • Is there a go-to wall charger people like the best?

I just want to charge a phone, and sometimes an ipod, and infrequently some GoPros and Kindles etc.. googling has left me confused!

  • I have the 4-port version. Trust me, you'll need that adapter. LED's are very bright, probably take up a lot of power.

    • Does it work well? Some hubs work on and off, some sort of compatibility issue.

      • +1

Mine works fine. Paid $10 a year ago on eBay. Can't use more than 2 bays unpowered, even with low power devices.

      • +1

Nope, I have one, dodgy as, very cheap nasty hub. Can't really use external disks on it just powers them off and takes a long time to power back up again when you want to use it. Half the time it goes into zombie mode and you have to unplug and plug back in a few times to get it to recognise some of the ports.

I rather get the usb Type c

      I rather get a burrito.

  • $15.78 with EU/US plug but came with an AU adapter albeit 1A delivered. I bought this in the previous 15% off eBay. Took about 2 weeks to arrive. Also you have cashrewards/shopandmint to take advantage of.

    • +3

I think most people would pay the $1 extra for double the power.

Could be useful as a raid since the woolies $2 16gb usb stick promo on going atm… https://youtu.be/dougISKs2vQ

  • Ordered one with Adapter, my PC doesn't have much USB 3.0 ports. Thanks OP.

  • I have tried the 7 port, crapped itself after a month. Also I had to black out the LEDs with nail polish. My whole house glowed!

  • "Connect USB devices such as a Webcam, mouse, Printers, Scanners and more"

No HDD's mentioned…I bought one (NOT this) for this purpose and didn't even work on 2A port by itself.
Still looking…anybody tried this or have any suggestions? Seen this one on eBay but did not take the chance.
I need a 7+ USB Hub that I can use to run several hard drives at the same time…please help :-)

    • Anker 7 port, I got one from Amazon. Not cheap - well reviewed. Can do 3x 2.5" drives at once

      • How much did you pay for the Anker 7 port, Hamwhisperer?

        • I know it wasn't cheap, I think it was under $50 AUD to my door at the time tho - AUD$ was stronger then tho

        • +1

Actually no - I can't find the one I got - but I do know you want the largest possible AC adapter on it. Mine has a 12V 4a adapter, the more trhe meririer tho.

  • Actually got this on ebay ages ago, quite nice.

  • Can anyone recommend a USB hub, I plan on only using it for my wireless mouse/keyboard, cooling pad and Xbox controller dongle?

  • Will this make your usb 2.0 into 3.0?

    • No, you must have a USB3 port to achieve USB3 speeds.

Alternatively if you have a PC you can purchase PCI express cards with USB 3 ports on them. 2 port and 4 port are easily available.

  • If you guys concern about the power then think about the Dicksmith 4ports hub http://www.dicksmith.com.au/computer-accessories/dick-smith-…. It comes with 4A adaptor. I bought it for $20 last week when it was on sale. I am using it connected to 3 portable hdd - all can be seen from my media player. I haven't tried on my computer so don't know much about the performance. Read the reviews posted there for more information.

    • cool. thanks…This is $28.48 at DSE online atm (today only).

      http://www.dicksmith.com.au/computer-accessories/dick-smith-…

I think that I will try and get it for this cheaper price in store.

      • I got this for $28.48 in store…
I can confirm that it works with 4 x Portable HDD's on PC.
        2 x USB 2.0 and 2 x USB 3.0….

        • STOP THE PRESS's !!!

This HUB worked last night and is now faulty :(
Returning to DSE for $$$ back !!! Do Not Buy this item…

I have just got a "ORICO P10-U3 10 Port USB 3.0 Super Speed Hub Splitter w/ 12V4A PSU VL812 Chip" from ebay, there is power enough for 3 disks (1x2TB, 2x1TB) and some other USB 3.0 stuff without problems.
The good thing is that the blue LED's only are on when there is a live connection on this one.
You can also turn the whole Hub on and off with a switch.

I just received my 7 Ports USB 3.0 HUB from Shopping Square today. First I tried connecting my wireless keyboard and mouse adapters and they both work fine. However as soon as I tried to connect an USB 3.0 thumb drive, all 3 devices became unresponsive. Just to confirm that it wasn't an issue with the USB drive, I tried 3 different thumb drives but still no luck. Can someone who bought this USB HUB as well, tell me is this normal or is my HUB faulty?

    • +1

mine sucks too. portable hard drives dont show up. thumb drives comes and go. i dont think the power adapter does anything

    • i've had my hub from this deal for about a week. it's a piece of crap! some things work sometimes, others require multiple plug-unplug operations to get them to respond, and everything seems to operate at either USB 2 speed, or maybe a tiny bit better, but SD cards and hdd's are all far slower than a direct plug into the computer's port. i want a refund! how do we go about getting one?
