Bankwest - Not Honoring 50000 Bonus QFF Points for Platnium Master Card

Just to share my experience with this rubbish bank:

I went through a website promotion from 'Credit Card Finder' when I applied for the card. It was offering 50000 bonus Qantas FF points.
I have double-check my eligibility for the 50000 points, and the consultants from Bankwest has checked and even put in a note on my account to ensure me I am eligible for the
50000 bonus points.

When the point didn't come in September, I called again, and another consultant confirmed I am eligible and ask me to wait, in worst case, till 5th November.

So I make sure I meet the spending requirement for the bonus and keep waiting , and still no bonus point.

I called on 9th Nov and yet another consultant and her manager keep telling me I am not eligible for the bonus.

I have no trust in this Rubbish Bank any more as what has promised me all these months ends with an expensive mobile call. They couldn't even honour the bonus point they promised.

I have cancelled my card straight away and I won't deal with this Rubbish Bank again in my life.

  • Did you have the card for at least three months? If I recall correctly, Bankwest credits the points after your third billing month. It's written in one of the docs/T&C's I believe.

My experiences with Bankwest are quite the opposite - I've found their customer reps to be very helpful and friendly in stores/over the phone.

    • yes. As I said, I met all the requirement(including spending). Activated Card in July, Was told everything ok, A note in my Account saying customer eligible for 50000 QFF, then I Was told points will credit in Sep, then in Oct, then NOT ELIGIBLE at all. What a Joke. Rubbish Bank.

      • That's a shame, I've experienced pretty awesome customer service with them too. Use many of their products… Did they explain why?

        • I'd also be interested to see why they did not honour the points as I was looking at this card (for the points).

As the others have said, I've had nothing but positive experiences with Bankwest.

  • Anyway, they think their cards are so special/superior than others,
when in fact, they are NOT even giving $1 to 1 QFF.

Other cards (e.g. 28 degree, Coles, Westpac) are starting to offer "No Foreign Transaction Fee".

They are relying on the 50000 QFF bonus point to attract application, and if they start breaking the promise, they are just a Rubbish bank operating a rubbish card.

    • I think you are missing the point of the product - what other card on the market will give you no foreign transaction fees AND let you earn QFF points at the same time? I don't think there are any others off the top of my head.

Bankwest actually do have a $1:1QFF card with no FX fees. It's a hidden tier above Platinum called World. I have one and it's probably the ultimate card IMHO.

I am just telling my experience and let people aware that the rubbish bank can always argue about your eligibility for the bonus point if they want to.

I have no doubt they still have happy customers like you, otherwise they would not still exist.

and I am talking about Platinum card here, not some 'hidden tier' card. I am sure if you are that special to them, they may give you a uranium card with $1 : 100 QFF.

    • Which Westpac card has no foreign transaction fees? I'd be interested to get one. I did a little search and could not find any.

        • Damn, that only applies to:

When making a purchase in a foreign country, you may have the choice to convert the cost of a transaction to your home currency (AUD). This service is provided by the retailer and is known as Dynamic Currency Conversion.
Dynamic Currency Conversion gives you flexibility at the register when offered online or overseas. By using your Westpac American Express® Companion Card to make purchases in AUD you'll no longer pay the 3.5% foreign transaction fee and will always know the exact amount being charged to your card at point of sale.

You still need to pay the 3 - 3.5% on other things if it is in the foreign currency. EG, taking cash out of the ATM in London, paying in Euro for your meal etc.

That Dynamic currency conversion option is not very common and so the value of this Westpac card is not high. I miss the old NAB gold card (pre 2013) where I could take out cash from the ATM (after loading up my credit card) and paying ZERO ATM (usually $4) and ZERO transaction fees (% based).

        • @danielh: Buying from Big online overseas retailers (e.g. Amazon) is the main benefit, as most of them now offer Dynamic Currency Conversion.

      • +3

Dynamic Currency Conversion 5% Plus on conversion.

        That is not a bargain.

  • Hi, I had the same problem for a card that I got in April they messed up the address when they first sent out the card. Points did not arrive after the first 3 months rang them each month for next 3 months and I was assured they would post. Then after escalating to superviser I was told not eligible due to the application going through with a mortgage. Luckily I had a email that showed I was offered the card by a sales person that specifically mentioned the 50k points so they caved and paid the points 2 weeks later.

    • I have a note on my account saying "checked and eligible for 50000 QFF", but they still didn't honor that. They simply make an excuse saying the "The credit Card Finder" link I clicked to apply must be an old link that shouldn't exist. Rubbish Bank.

Can you find anything that confirms the offer was present? Or does the page still exist?
By law, I'm fairly sure they need to honour this. If it was an old link and shouldn't exist, they are still bound to follow through.
They offer 50K points atm, you could use that against them.
You can also open a case with the financial ombudsman. That might bring them to the table.

If it were me, I wouldn't back down til they gave me what I was entitled to.

Thanks for sharing, coprocessor8087. Have you contacted their complaints department? You may get further if you escalate it.

  • Unfortunate story here, but interested on what is their reason for not honouring the points?
There is still an ongoing 50k points deal and the main terms of current deal seem to be:
    - new customers only
    - spend at least $2,500 on eligible purchases within 3 months

I wonder if they are questionning whether you are in fact a new customer?
Anyway I contacted their media dept and they said they will investigate and maybe post a reply here so watch this space.

    • As I mentioned above:

I have a note on my account saying "checked and eligible for 50000 QFF", but they still didn't honor that. They simply make an excuse saying the "The credit Card Finder" link I clicked to apply must be an old link that shouldn't exist. Rubbish Bank.

They are denying the promotion they had with 'Credit Card Finder'.

When I have time in the weekend, I will post to more social media site.

I will also write to newspaper's finance journalists to reveal the trap for this kind of bonus promotion by this rubbish bank.

And of course a formal complaint to the Consumer Council and Finance Regulation Body.
