Free Comics on Google Play

2410

2nd post, so please be kind.
I didn't see any other posts relating to this, so here we go:

https://play.google.com/store/books/collection/promotion_100…

I came across this deal this morning. While it's an 'Every Thursday' ongoing deal, the individual issues rotate around, so you technically have a new 'deal' each week.

Plus, who would say no to free comics?

Enjoy.

  • this is awesome!! great post!

  • Free TMNT comic!!!

  • Awesome find!!

  • Oh man! Star Trek/Planet of the Apes!

A lot of other good ones in there. Thanks!

  • Cheers. Only one that peaked my interest was The Walking Dead. Great comic, great show.

  • Thanks OP. Wish there was a provision to buy all these free books at a go. :-)

  • It was asking for payment mode ?

any idea how can I add it without providing a payment mode ?
    - trying to avoid making unnecessary purchase (specially if kids sometimes use the computer or phone)

    • That's how they roll, there is no free lunch :)
There is a option available that you need to enter your password each time you process a payment.

      • thanks - i'l try to register payment mthod and enable the feature to enter password to avoid unnecessary/accidental purchase.

        • Its works fine via google app but you may have to test it via browser once you login to the google account I haven't notice it ask for password to purchase stuff.

  • Great post OP!

Hi all, I've done some research but came up with very little.

Does anybody know the best way to convert Google Play books to PDF and then print physical copies?

  • +3

My recommendations from that list are:

Lazarus (a big slow at start but picks up)
    The Walking Dead
Saga (Best of the best, jump on the bandwagon!)
    Rat Queens
    Stray Bullets

I have read most of these series to some degree, obviously above recommendations are based on my personal preferences.

Heads up for those that do not know, this has been done by ComiXology for years.

124 free Comics there at the moment and new ones rotated in:

    https://www.comixology.com/free-comics?list341_pg=1

Personally I have 806 free comics, but I am sure others would have many more.

    • Good heads up man - so why've you kept it from us all this time … Time to do a separate post ?

      • Because it's been there for years and for some reason this post has become really popular. Usually digital comic posts have about 4 +s

  • This is great thanks very much

My inner brony is galloping with delight:

My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic #1 Issue #1

    • and you wonder why you're on that watchlist!

  • How old you should be before you are too old to read comics? I am 36!

    • Most of those comics aren't for kids.

    • I have seen ads for cars in Marvel comics. Kids aren't their target demographic. Despite what the ignorant think, comic books tend to be quite mature, unlike animated cartoons which are mostly extremely juvenile and superficial - despite all the fighting nobody dies or is mained, whereas in comic books I have seen people being decapitated, ripped in half or having a limb amputated.

Sometimes Humble Bundle or Groupees have comic book bundles. I was able to purchase the lowest tier of 2 for $0.00 :) Most comic books are just jpegs distributed in common archives; cbr = rar, cbz = zip. There are quite a few dedicated comic book readers now as well on PC and other platforms (eg ComicRack, CDisplayEx).

However, adult tend to have a low opinion of other adults who read comics. Prepare to be judged. It doesn't bother me since I don't have middle class pretensions and don't want to conform & "to be cool".

      • they die but never die. There is always a clone, resurrection…

I'm 38 and been reading since I was 10. I have over 15,000 physical comics and over 3,000 books in my Comixology collection.

If you think comics are just for kids these days, then you clearly have had your head stuck in the sand. In case you didn't notice, comics and superheroes are now 'cool'.

Can I hang out with you? Can I be your friend? Please ? :D

  • "2nd post, so please be kind."

Good post man. I think everyone's been kind.

Time to get nasty and turn this thread into a comic storyline ?

  • Looks like a broad range. I've struggled with comics in the past: I'll read the words and ignore the graphics. But for the price of free, I'll give it another go.

  • +50 or +however many comics that was
Got the lot - well except jem and a couple of kiddy ones
    Cheers

  • Great to see comics becoming more accessible. I understand most of these are already free elsewhere, but not everyone has the comiXology app and account. Whereas most people with Androids will have a play account. This can only help exposure.

    I reccomend;

    Alex + Ada
Rat Queens (absolutely not for kids)
    Saga

  • I think I have the print copy of savage dragon#1 somewhere in my cupboard. I wonder what it is worth.

    • $2 if it's in mint condition

      • +1

im glad it held it value

  • This probably deserves it's own post. But these books are now free on Comixology as well as a bunch of others. I prefer Comixology because of the panel by panel view which is great for reading on phones and splash pages on tablets.
