Most stores will not be honoring the delivery as its separate retail sales channel to the store. Its a very good price nonetheless.
Theres a lot of negative reviews of Westinghouse online but in my mind Westinghouse is very reliable as its fully Australian made. Its a very old design but very reliable.

      fully Australian made

      Australian Assembled maybe

    • I bought a Samsung french door for aorund ~$1414 using the same deal with cash rewards and all.

Still sitting at the store, contemplating the best/cheapest way to bring it home.

Can we pay the store to have it delivered even though bought it ebay?

      • +1

Surely you have a mate with a ute or trailer?

      • +1

I dont see why not. The delivery will be at $75 if you're within 20KM of your selected store. Theres also free trailer hire if you have a towbar. These are meant to be delivered upright so if you're using a trailer to get it home, make sure not to use it for a day or two and just let it stand.

        • These wide fridges might not fit through doors, so might need to have doors removed. Can be complicated.

        • +2

          @wxyz234:
Also note, the doors opening make the fridge wider than the measurements. We bought a white one a few years ago to pop in a fridge hole, it fit nicely but couldnt open one door properly.

Check door difference when open before relying on measurements.

We have had this fridge for 4 1/2 years. Apart from it collecting shallow dents (how the hell did that get there??) and a cracked plastic frame on one of the glass shelves, it's been faultless.
Our previous fridge was a F&P upside down and not a patch on this one. Prior to that we had a Westinghouse for 14 years and just had cracked door trays etc.

Important point to note is that due to the nature of the beast (side by side) the shelves tend to be narrow. As such it can be inconvenient to accommodate things.
A french door model is next on our fridge experience list.

      • I've had this fridge for about 6 months (paid $1550 delivered) and it so far it is doing a good job and doesn't make too many noises! It was the perfect size for our fridge space. Hopefully we will continue to get good service out this one!

        • Since striking out on my own about 30 years ago, I've had a hand me down 10 year old Westinghouse, 2 brand new Westinghouse and a F&P.
Of those, only the F&P was a disappointment with a badly designed set of shelves & door shelves that cracked and were difficult to get the configuration you wanted and 1 metal freezer shelf that sagged and dropped off its track at the mere thought of putting anything on it.
As far as reliability goes I have no complaints with any of them.

I'm very happy with my 10 year old Westinghouse, the problem is, it's 10 years old information. Who knows how they are made now, competing with cheap Chinese alternatives in the last decade has meant that many good brands have become mediocre and if you want good quality, it's becoming rarer and rarer.

I know the replacement equiv to my 420L westinghouse has an awful freezer unit (all these fancy plastic sliding trays and shelves / compartments - but ultimately it's fidgety and smaller)

I will say that price SEEMS damn good.

  • thanks fuzor, I hope my purchase turns out to be good

I went and picked up a washing machine today and used their free courtesy trailer . $100 deposit and a couple of forms . Last time I used a ute from bunnings they didn't even ask to see my license . I bought the Samsung 8.5kg Top Loader Washing machine WA85F7S6DRA for $700 which was $150 cheaper than anywhere else in W.A.
Nice machine , washes well but has the outlet on the side of the machine .

I find the problem with online reviews by owners is that it's mostly people with a problem that can be bothered to give reviews.
So I go by personal reviews ie friends, family, colleagues, associates opinions and where of value choice reviews.

      • This is very true. Human tend to vent for resent but silence with expected results.

      • What about products with lots of positive reviews?

        • I suspect you will find them to be anomalies when looking at the whole data set

      • Problem I have is that anything that has been on there long enough to get an idea of their reliability is long since discontinued .

        • Yes, it's quite often the case on that site. It seems most times I try to find reviews on current products they aren't on there

    • Try this ozbargain site as Choice may have the review you are looking for

      https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/215205

  • I'm in the market for one of these side by side units as well, but it seems everything i look at is either well over $2000, or has terrible reviews. Have you seen anything else that falls somewhere in the middle: good value with ok reviews?

  • +4

We have the 700L one of these, and I think it's brilliant. My Dad has this one and he likes it too but finds it a little bit small. Neither of us have had any problems, it's quiet and designed well. Plus the freezer section is shelves and I find that more functional than a big drawer (Plus I can fit frozen pizza in the door shelves so no problems there). I spent ages fridge shopping and this one seemed the best for us but I was worried about the bad reviews too, so I ended up buying an extended warranty which covers things like plastic being broken - haven't actually needed it though. I know extended warranties are usually unnecessary (and ozbargain sacrilege) but I got a good deal (from masters for not much more than this when they did price matching on fridges) and it made me feel better. TLDR - I like the fridge

  • +1

Agreed that the 700L version is where the value is at. Great fridge/freezer. Had ours for 2 years and couldn't have been happier with it so far.

  • I have had this model now for 23 months. Great fridge. No problems. I believe they are made in Orange, NSW although I'm not sure whether that is still the case. Don't have kids at home anymore so didn't feel the need for the auto ice/ cold water function. Ours is butt up against a wall so I need to pull it out to alter the shelves which can be a bit tricky.

When I first saw the pic, I thought it was a iPad pro box with 2 apple pencils on it… haha

    • same and the similar pricing…..

  • I've got this fridge. Not the best fridge but i give it a 8/10 score.

  • I've had this fridge for about 6 months now. Love it with no regrets on purchasing. Didn't want the auto ice/water feature and this was one of the few models without that didn't cost over $2k. I'd previously only had a normal top freezer/bottom fridge classic combo so was quite excited about the double doors. This is perfect for our needs (2 adults) as we like to stock up on things when they're on sale. The only thing I'd say is that the narrower width of shelves took some getting used to but rarely have a need to have super wide shelves since it fits my baking tray easily.

  • We have just had the freezer of a pigeon pair break down @ just over 26 yrears old - so can't complain about Westinghouse fridge or freezer. Fridge is still going strong.

  • -1

    But where's the turkey?

    • sitting behind his keyboard

  • +1

I have the white version of this. I think it's a good reliable model though the vertical arrangement of the freezer can cause issues with temperature difference if you stack it wrong. Eg over stack shelves. Also things stored in the door shelves tend to not last as long - looks like they must re freeze a bit. Cant fault otherwise. It might just be a side by side thing.

Westinghouse are horrible. Their warranty repair service is even worse. The compressor in our fridge failed 5 days after the 2 year warranty. They made us pay $400+ to get it fixed. It's been almost 5 years now and it's starting to leak water. I don't know how long it'll last.

    • Since you cast a neg, what's wrong with this deal?

I've had a Westinghouse fridge for six years, four house moves and still going strong. Maybe you got a lemon.

      • I've had a Westinghouse fridge for six years, four house moves and still going strong. Maybe you got a lemon.

Have a look around at the reviews and the experiences say otherwise. Maybe you were one of the few who got a decent one.

    • The compressor in our fridge failed 5 days after the 2 year warranty.

Its a shame you didn't enforce your "Statutory Rights". Large fridges are usually covered for at least 3-5 years, irrespective of what the manufacturer/retailer says.

  • Got this fridge for under $1100 from Retravision O'Connor about 5 years ago, has one replaced after about a year due to cracks in the plastic inner lining, no problems aside from that, great fridge. also used the rewards credits to stay at a great hotel in Bali.

Slightly off topic but I really cannot see any reviews so I am asking here:

Anyone got any comment about this Haier fridge?
    http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/NEW-Haier-Side-By-Side-Refrigerat…

It's the cheapest I can find which is stainless steel and has an ice/water dispenser.

  • Using all the same deals in the OP, you can get the white version for around $900

  • Hi, have been looking at this fridge for a few days wondering whether to buy it? We are a family of 4 (2 adults, 2 toddlers) and wondering what other's opinions are of whether the size is adequete for a family? Our fridge gap is only 93cm wide, so going for the bigger 700L (1m wide) isn't really an option unless walls are taken out etc. We've got a hand me down bottom freezer type fridge of around 520L at the moment I think that needs updating.

  • Also, just rang Masters and they said that you have to arrange delivery with your local store if you want delivery - $75 for delivery within 20km of store.

  • same deal now available at tgg with shipping at 50 for those interested

  • Did anyone get their cashback from Westinghouse? I messaged Masters on eBay and it says they are not a participaing retailer. The T&Cs of the Westinghouse cashback say that it is not valid with any other promotion.
