Warning: WinXDVDRipperPlatinum Contains a Virus

On Boxing Day, WinXDVDRipperPlatinum was announced as a free download. It's now being flagged as having a virus.

I'm not sure what is going on as I had just downloaded the Zip file, but I hadn't actually installed it. Nether the less, my virus scanner reported a virus not only in the Zip file, but also infecting a System Restore files.

If you downloaded this file, even if you didn't install it, you consider your machine infected.

Thats not good news, sorry to hear that , hve you got a link containing the info and anything to confirm it is not a false positive?

Also what AV are you using ?

    • It shows as a heuristic virus (so it could be a false positive) …. but its shows up under both Comodo and Onecare.

  • That's a bit strange, i've installed it and have been using it for a while - McAffee did not report a virus.
    I'm using VirusScan version 13.15

    • The problem is that virus writers test their malware against all the common AV scanners regularly. So its actually rare for Norton or McAffee to detect a virus early on.

  • For free software like this just head to www.cnetdownload.com. You can be very positive that it won't have any malware/virus… and it could be telling that winxdvd seems to be absent from there.

Just be sure to click Free in the narrow search options on the left.

  • hmmm probably better safe than sorry, ill remove when im home and run a scan. thx

  • That's "bonus" software we could do without! Will have to scan my copy…
