  • Bonus starts 17/11 for 2 days?

    • The store credit Yep

      • Thanks. I don't trust my eyes or my comprehension at 3:40am. Grabbed one of the Luxor Action Cams for my boy as waiting wasn't of value.

  • Luxor also available on ebay so you can use cashback.

  • does anyone know if you can fit go pro mounts?

    • I can't find any further info about that camera online at all.

What's the good guys returns policy like if it just turns out to be unusable cheap rubbish?

      • Im want to know the same but then, maybe would be better to get one of those gopros clones, for about 80 bucks….

      • Not sure id be expecting it to be great for $28 (even the $68RRP). Something you throw to the kids to play with for fun.

        • It does say full 1080p and have a built-in GPS though, which is better than a lot of the cheap ones available…

        • @damion: my laptop has a 1.3 mega micro HD webcam. The word full HD is deceiving

        • @CandyMan: Yes, HD can be a variety of things, but '1080p' is a fixed resolution (of course, the video quality is still variable)

        • Nice find, from the photos it looks like a standard tripod mount? For $28 I'm thinking of using it as a cheap helmet cam

  • Luxor no information what so ever on the net, must be OEM product
Cheap….. hmmm can it support 64g micro sd even though it says 32g?

    • It's a SDHC device, so it supports Fat32-formatted cards up to 32 GB. 64 and 128 GB cards might work if you format them to Fat32.

  • Does the LCD actually display any image or do you have to point to things blindly?

    • It's just a status display, not a viewfinder. The action-cam is designed to be pointed in the direction of interest, not for framing specific objects. It's not blind pointing… your finger doesn't have a viewfinder, but you can still point at things.

      • Maybe, maybe not:

"What's more, you can get a sneak peak of the amazing footage and photos with the LUXOR LUXACAR01's LCD screen viewfinder."

        or

"Viewfinder Display: Back LCD display to display the time or distance of the workout activity"

which is correct?! I guess I'm going to have to get one to find out.

Worth pointing out it's the same price on their eBay store with that sweet sweet 2.5% cash back via cashrewards.

    • You're 8 hours and 50 minutes too late! @awoff1 already did that

Why didn't I see that, I did a search on page for 'ebay' and it came back empty. My bad/derp.

Manual is branded "RIDO Sport+ action camera"
There is a standard tripod screw mount at the bottom.

    Any questions?

    • Can you post some video to show how the camera performs? Night/low-light, daytime, camera motionless, camera shaking around. Raw files on DropBox/Google Drive/OneDrive are great, otherwise YouTube or Vimeo (but quality takes a hit when the video is re-encoded).

      • I have to figure out if it will mount on my bike handlebars first, if not, i'm going to take it back.

      • +1

Found some youtube videos under the Sport+ RIDO name.

        • Unfortunately most of the image is mush not helped by YouTube compression.

That said, it's not bad for $28.

        • @Thrift: I'm uploading some raw videos now, but they don't look very good.
I think it needs better optics.

      • +1

I've uploaded some raw videos here:
        https://mega.nz/#F!b0kFTAhD!cMAxSr2Bezm_AY9tQ_A_FA

I can't figure out how to intentionally take photos though, so I'll have to read the instructions again.

        • Thanks for uploading.

The YouTube vid shows taking a photo is done by pressing the power button (maybe you hold it for a few seconds to switch on/off).

        • Thanks for the footage, it gives a great indication of the quality. It may be no GoPro, but it's not bad for $28 considering the GPS logging.

Pity about the glitch in 720p_60fps.MOV at 03m 15s. Doesn't seem to be a regular thing though.

        • @Thrift:
          This thing is ridiculous.
The camera and gps/display turn on and off independently.
When you turn the camera on, it also turns on the gps/display.
When you turn the camera off, it does not turn the gps/display off
When you turn the gps/display on, the camera does not turn on.
When you turn the gps/display off, i have no idea what the camera does.

I think the main issue, is the focus is all wrong. The specs say focal length 0.5 - infinity, but after taking some still photos, it's obvious that everything past about 1m is out of focus.

I'm going to box it back up and take it back.

    • No mention of battery life or recording time on a single charge?

      • +1

Tucked away in the back of the manual it says 2 hours.

  • Mine arrived today. I did not expect it to have so many features that were not camera related. In all honesty I see this more as a cycle computer that can be used as a camera.

Did a brief search, bicycle computers with GPS capability range from about $100 to $600 so I'm pretty happy with $36. I don't how it compares to the more expensive ones, does what I want though.

As pointed out above the camera and GPS operate separately from each other in terms of power, it seems odd to begin with, but is probably a useful feature and may improve battery life.

As yet I haven't tried the camera but as it is now I don't really care, camera is just an extra feature I may or may not use.

    • If you figure out how to take still photos, please take a few and check if objects more than a meter or so away are clear or not.

I'm interested to know if mine is actually faulty, or if they all just have bad focus.

Possibly not the best examples. Was taken with the camera set to 16MP which I assume is some kind of demon-magic interpolation.

        • Thanks.
I think mine might be busted…. I don't think my images are as clear.

        • @damion: Could you upload a picture of yours, I'd be interested to see what you mean.

        • @CyberGenesys:
My wall looks blurrier than your fence and chairs: http://imgur.com/AWhNMhZ

        • @damion: It looks like blurry only on the right side? try taking the picture with the camera upside down (it has auto rotate) so the picture should look the same but with the blurry side on the left? That should prove it's an optical issue.

        • @CyberGenesys:
Actually, I thought it looked blurry on the left hand side.
Maybe I'm just being too critical of a cheap little plastic f/3.6 fixed-focus lens.
(and should never use the 16MP option)

  • For those that have bought the action cam, does it have an intervalometer function to take a still pic every x seconds?

    • According to the manual

Time Lapse mode captures a series of photos at 10 seconds, 30 seconds or 1 minute intervals.
