Cheap IP Camera to Be Used as a Baby Monitor

Hi guys, I am looking for a IP camera to watch my baby every now and then while I am at work/away from home. The baby monitors with digital video capability are too expensive. So, I decided to just buy a cheap audio monitor for home and set up an IP camera just for the viewing of baby on my phone while away. Searching through Ozbargain I came across these two:

and

Would you be able to advise me a reasonably good one (including these two).

Thanks in advance.

  • I have the zmodo one. Pretty impressed with it. I think it should do what you want, depending how good the quality the image you want it to be. Setting it up was very easy, all I needed to do was put in my wifi password into the app on my phone and the app sets up the camera automatically. You can even talk to your baby through the app if you wanted to, although you might sound a bit muffled because the speakers on the ip camera is not the best.

I might get a few more when they come back on special.

Edit- forgot to mention, you can setup notifications if there is movement in the camera view. eg. if you baby wakes up and move around, the camera will notify you.

    • Bought the Zmodo. Cheers :)

  • We used the DLink DCS-933L:

Has worked brilliantly. Decent quality video - we have twins so it had to be wide enough to monitor both cots, which it did adequately. Can be configured to email alerts based on movements (and also sounds I believe). The audio is 1-way only (room to camera) which is actually isn't a bad thing given the prevalence of cloud camera hacking.

Night view is very good, although the IR light is reasonably bright so when the babies are getting closer to being toddlers, they may notice it and stare at it instead of going back to sleep!

Being able to monitor the room over smartphone apps / website monitoring is brilliant.

    I recommend it.

  • I bought Dlink DCS-700L. It's not very accurate in terms of detecting movement and sending notifications. Also when the baby cried the sound echoed. I am returning it.

  • We use "baby monitor" (cloud baby monitor I think is it's new name) app between two ios devices. Works great.

Usually the big kids ipads as the camera and our iphones as the receiver.

  • Thanks @geek001

I just bought the Zmodo 720P HD Wi-Fi Mini Color Sensor Home Security IP Night Vision Camera from Banggood. Comes to $42.24 delivered after discount :)

    Sub-Total: AU$56.32
    Discount: AU$-14.08
    Air Parcel Register: AU$0.00
    Total AU$42.24

    • Hi which discount code did you use?

      • Discount Code: zmodo$10

I think the $10 refers to USD so converted it's about 14 AUD

        • Hi,
Does this model have Sound Notifications? Eg, it notifies you via sms or alarm etc if baby starts crying? I've read it can notify you with motion, but does it notify with sound only?
          Cheers

        • +1

          @mrtin:

Yes it works with sound notifications.

        • @kazispeed:
Thanks but odd bc i asked banggood and they said no

        • +1

@mrtin: I've been using it for a week or so now and it definitely detects sound. If I have the TV on, it will send an alert notification to my iPhone that Sound is detected

Take a look at this review.. it is pretty informative

        • @kazispeed:
Thanks. A bit concerned after reading some of the reviews regarding security and streaming onto a cloud server…
