How have I never known there was a Comps section on Ozbargain! #mindblown

$10 Adult tickets still avail via this page of theirs:
    https://www.yestickets.com.au/

    • +1

will thiss always be available, or will this eventually be replaced? I am not an Optus customer and if they end this, I can't register for the new program!

      • +1

I think you will have until the end of the month. From the terms and conditions

Movie Vouchers are available for purchase online and on your mobile until 30 November 2015, unless the offer is extended or withdrawn.

    • +1

Should we stock up on these $10 ones before they disappear?

      • +4

Just be aware they expire 3 months from date of purchase

        • +2

they expire in as little as 3 months**

I get 5-6 months on most of mine

        • A shame but there are a lot of very good movies coming out shortly.

        • Just bought some, expiry still April, 2016, for me.

        • @peeweekathi: Mine's only till March 2016. How did you get April?

        • +2

@lemonteh: I've solved the mystery! Bought up a few more and the Hoyts ones are until March 2016, Reading Cinemas are until end of April, 2016! Hope this helps :)

  • what's the cheapest optus SIM? Will that work to register do you think, should they discontinue yestickets?

    • +4

      $2

      • +1

Kmart, price tag was 10c, scanned as 5c!

      • I did this, and can confirm the $2 SIM works. Coincidentally I noticed the Astor has $11 tickets too (cannot redeem for >5pm on a Sat though).

        • Can you explain how you got the SIM to let you register? Might sound obvious, but… did you just put it in, switch on the phone and then you could receive the Optus Perks confirmation SMS, or did you have to activate a plan? I'm guessing you had to activate a plan. There's the Optus $10 plan that costs $2/day for any day you use voice/data - did you use that?

          @DeWalt:
Sorry for the delay. Literally just saw your post for some reason. I had to recharge. You got it in one - $10 $2/day.

    • Possibly free, at most $1.

    • Just keep trying a number till it works. They don't cross check

      • That's what I did last time. Looks like they ask for a verification code now. Bummer.

        • Any $2 optus sim should work I guess

2 for $18 Hoyts tickets at Costco - no restriction - use any day, any show - valid for 12 months

    • 2 single tickets or a 'couple ticket' for $18?

      • 2 individual tickets for $18

        • +6

I work in the industry and critic films so it's my prefered choice, although I also like going to the movies with other people if they remain quiet :)

        • +7

          @clarky:

lol you critique films but you can't even spell the word?

    • +2

do they sell Village Tickets at Costco?

      • no

      • They do now, at least at Moorabbin. 2for $24, can't be used after 5pm Saturdays

    • Is this nationwide? Seems it should be a deal with a reminder set to it every month. Shame there's no Costco for miles and miles.

      • yeah. regular everyday price…

    • are these physical coupons in every Costco? I asked my sister who's a member and she hadn't seen them before

      • yes, they are 2 physical vouchers, you can use it for online booking as well

    • I just bought some from Costco Moorabbin. Not only have they raised the price to 2 for $24, they also can't be used on Saturdays after 5pm. Which you won't find out until after you've paid.

I think I might be taking them back for a refund.

  • Good deal for normal tix. Hoyts Lux isn't great in my one experience of it, didn't compare to Village gold class. Seat comfort in particular didn't compare.

    • What do u get with LUX? is it like the old la premier with free drink and pop corn?

      • Well they said free drink was included but they didn't give us one, however they did provide a free small popcorn for each person and better seats than normal (but inferior to Goldclass). You also have the opportunity to have various overpriced food, drinks and alcohol delivered to you during the film.

In fact they are supposed to usher you into the cinema from the lounge when the movie starts. They actually forgot about us in the lounge and we made our own way in some way through the previews.

        • You can go to the bar show them your ticket and get free drink! It'll be served inside the cinema.

      • We get free-flow dirnks and popcorn. In fact they actively encourage you to take more popcorn.

I was just looking at tickets to see Spectre at Village this morning… $21 regular, $24 Vmax… We decided not to go..

These Optus prices are what movie tickets SHOULD cost ALL THE TIME.

    • It works like this. Those who are price conscious will buy voucher. Those who don't give a stuff will pay full price. This way they extract the most out of everyone. There's a term for this in economics. Same as price rebates and money back.

      • The term is price discrimination :)

    • +3

yes tickets for hoyts, telstra rewards for event cinemas. Also, there are plenty of other avenues for cheap tickets. I havn't paid full price for a movie ticket in 6 years probably.

      • Neither, my wife gets them free from her work as OH&S rewards.. but we don't have any currently.

      • I have optus and telstra in the family, but both the owners don't know of these perks. Could you be so kind as to link us up? Ta!

  • +12

Not going to neg but how in the world is a $1 price hike a deal?

    • Was thinking the same thing… although it's still cheaper than the Telstra-Event cinema pricing of $12.50 per ticket (increased to this since 1 Nov). It's also $16.50 for Vmax, which is only 50c cheaper than a regular ticket Vmax on a Tuesday!

    • +2

"existing Optus movie Rewards will be replaced with the new Optus Perks Loyalty program" Means the old deal won't be available anymore.

  • +3

Damn, long live the $10 tickets!

  • +1

where the Village cinemas discounts :(

    • +2

      Village Cinemas is through Telstra

  • Does the payment get processed by Hoyts or Optus? I've got some Hoyts giftcards I brought through recent AMEX statement credit offer that would be nice to stack for Lux tickets.

    • +1

      Optus

    • +2

Gets processed by a third party on behalf of Optus/Hoyts

      • Thanks guys

  • Do you still have to print out a physical voucher to redeem? This was the worst part of the old system when on work trips and not having a printer at hand :(

    • With yes tickets you can book your tickets online for no extra charge. I never tried booking at the counter with a voucher though. Not sure if printed voucher is a requirement in the new system.

      • +3

I just used some YES Hoyts vouchers earlier in the week and you do not need to print them out. Scanned off my phone, no problems.

Can't vouch for the new system but don't see why it should be different

  • No thank you.The prices have gone up from previous.

    • I agree.

  • +2

    Kids are actually $8.50

  • +2

I'm still so cheap I wouldn't spend $11 on a movie ticket but those new Hoyt's electric seats are amazing.

  • All the prices are going up - Telstra pushed theirs to $11 years ago and now to $12.50. Looks like Optus is following suit.

    • In my area Telstra has limited cinemas but Optus has all of them.

      • Quite the opposite where I live.

  • Would it work with optus carrier third parties like virgin mobile?

  • Its $12.50 now. WTF!?!?
