Recommend me a TV and Soundbar

Hey Guys,

In the process of furnishing my house and I am looking for a 60-65" TV as well as a sound bar. Spoke with one of the blokes at Good Guys and he reckons Samsung or LG and no matter what go UHD.

Peoples thoughts and best prices? Samsung seem to tickle the fancy a bit as apparently you can change the box?

UHD is a bit of overkill considering the lack of content you can actually watch at 4K resolutions.
you'll need extremely fast internet to use 4k on netflix and even then it will chew through your data.
other then that, tv stations barely stream 1080P at best.

LG and Samsung are pretty solid. sony also good, but more expensive.

as for TV stick with 1080P ignore the douche touting 4K UHD.

even if you wanted to use it as a PC monitor at 4K - you'd need a hell of a gaming rig to game at 4K over $2000 in video cards alone, or if it was just to use as a monitor - the fonts and everything would be so small it would be pointless and painful.

TLDNR: stick with LG or Samsung and 1080P

Do you mean when you watch TV shows via the internet on iview/PLUS7/9Jumpin? Because if you mean the terrestrial broadcasts then in Australia DVB-T is 1080i at best. 1080i is worse than 1080p.

But yes, totally agree that UHD is overkill. Even the latest gaming consoles are not expected to render games in 4K. XBOX One might support it but apparently there aren't any games that use it yet.

  • panel wise personally prefer LG, especially its IPS and 3D. Magic remote is also a bonus, works like a pointer rather than click click click.
Unfortunately all the good panels are on uhd now a days, have a look at 60LF6300 if interested. Was on sale for 14xx, not bad for a 200hz 60 inch.

  • Awesome, the next question. Curved??

personal preference - more of a gimmick, like when they were trying to push 3D.
try a curved from different angles and heights and work out whether the viewing is better for you compared to a flat screen.

I bought this t.v and price matched at Harvey Norman http://staticice.com.au/cgi-bin/search.cgi?q=60UF770T&spos=3 Lg 60. I am really happy with it. For another $400 you can get 3D, but we did not bother. I went from the Aldi 65 to this and worth the extra $800

  • Budget???

    How about this? https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/221776
