This is the 1st Gen Moto G. It's actually the US 4G version (XT1045), which doesn't support the 4G frequencies that are used in Australia.

It does, however, work on all of Australia's 3G networks.

Also has a microSD slot.

American's 4G is not 4G, just their euphemism of 3G, which is slower than true 4G.

    • The first gen moto g was not a 4g device anyway even in Australia. I do get jealous looking at the great US bargains on slick deals like the $30 lumia 640 and $10 moto e.

      • There is a 4G variant of the first gen moto g. XT1039. It has one sim slot and an sd slot. I have one.

        • My bad. I had one a while back and thought didn't realise a 4g model existed.

    • Its LTE 4G with the sd card slot.

Not the 3G single/dual sim versions without the card slot.

  • Telstra buzz $63 has 4g coverage inc 700 mhz $3 on ebay unlock and has android 5

    • The Telstra Buzz/ZTE Blade Q Lux definitely has better connectivity, but only a TFT 854x480 plastic screen. Still, it's a fantastic deal at only half the price of the Moto G.

I guess it depends on what your priorities in a phone are. The viewing angles and sunlight legibility of the screens that ZTE puts into those phones are a deal breaker for me. Overall build quality is also not as good as the Motorola.

The Moto G is upgradeable to Lollipop.

  • The Moto G is still a reasonably good spec phone from 2013 and good that it is on Lollipop. Unfortunately though it's 2015 and now budget handsets can be bought with 4gx support. I don't think it's worth spending this on a phone that doesn't have 4g support. I know the Sony E4g at $99 doesn't have the resolution or gorilla glass 3, but considering it has much faster processor, reasonable build quality and the screen is brighter (easier to see in sunlight) than the Moto G and still good screen despite the resolution that would be another good alternative to this.
