Not a big fan of Plasma! too much heat comes out of those suckers! almost like having a heater+TV whenever you watch something …I cant wait for 3D TV coming our in the next few months and reducing the price of all these nice LED TV's on the market even further …

FYI 3D TV are just LED LCD TV's with polarization, dual 1080P signal input capable through hdmi 1.4 and more then 150Mhz motion, well something along those lines anyways.

    • Man you either on crack cocaine or we are entering the James Cameron era of awesome. Wanna chat private?

    • 3D TVs won't be on the market in a few months. They were unveiled at CES, and are expected (at the earliest) last quarter of this year. Given that we live in the middle of nowhere, we'll probably be waiting until next year — don't hold your breath on the prices of these dropping.

      • Did you even read the article?
"A Samsung spokesman confirmed the company would launch a new-generation, 3D-ready TV in the country in "early April", with other firms including Sony, JVC, LG and Panasonic due to follow suit in June."

        • and yes 3d tvs are set to appear in aus sometime 2nd quarter (most likely end of 2nd beginning of 3rd before any real eye openers and competition)

        • I should be more specific -

These are not real 3D sets — these are simply a 120hz TV with alternating 60hz output and a IR sensor to inform the "glasses" of which eye to operate. They are not polarizing images (unlike, say, the cinemas), and you should not expect to see similar results as you would @ Village. The core difference between this set and a run of the mill set that's out on the market at the moment is the IR signal for the glasses. Beyond that, there's very little hardware change; even a 10-20% markup on current tech is inflated. 3D is just this year's buzzword to get consumers to buy new technology, regardless of its standard.

You are better off waiting for the true 3D sets with autostereopic panels (ala Samsung's prototype at CES) or one that outputs a polarized display requiring only passive (i.e. cheap!) glasses.

@Trance N Dance: I live in the real world timeline, where R&D actually matters. "Talk" does not automagically equal production. They were unveiled at CES — please read carefully.

          • @pais: i thought they used infitec/dolby3D for 3D at the cinemas. also, i doubt autostereo will be ready for general consumption for quiet some time.

            • @johnnyonelove: RealD (circ polarisation) at Event cinemas, Linear Polarised system at IMAX.

infitec and dolby3d are inferior to circ pol, though arguable compared to lin pol.

good mainstream autostereo is years if not decades away

              • @kimmik: There's actually been some progress with autostereo displays — TCL, Samsung, and I think even LG have prototypes (with the former being on the market), albeit with a limited viewing angle (sub 50 degrees).

      • wow what timeline are u following?
3d tvs were talked about appearing in the market since dec/january of 08-09

  • Damn you JB - I bought this for $1600 just over a month ago. :(

  • I bought this today from Moore Park at the advertised price of $1291. Store clerk wouldn't reduce the price, even for cash. They had about 4 boxed TVs on the floor.

    • Did you get the free delivery deal too alao?

  • Anyway to find out if jihifionline have stock? I ask because the BR player redemption requires you to send in the serial number of the TV, and it needs to be done within 21 days of purchase, so if they have to back order, you won't get the bonuses…

  • I did a pick up, so sorry I can't give you any details about delivery time.

  • +2

This TV has the dreaded black level problem of getting brighter over 200-500hrs of use.

The problem affects most (if not all) G10 and V10 plasmas. When new, the measured contrast ration is around 10,000 if i remember correctly from AVS and DTV forums, then slowly degrades to 4000 or possibly worse. which is about par with good LCDs e.g. sony.

    BEWARE!

    • Yes, above seems to be true. Read more at http://news.cnet.com/8301-17938_105-10449939-1.html

      Cheers

    • Thanks mate!
      This is vital info.

    • They are Plasma after all. The brightness of plasma TV sets do degrade over time due to chemical reactions I cannot be bothered explaining

      • This is a completely different problem. Nothing to do with the brightness. In fact, its worse than i described it.
