      Is Steins better than the anime? The review on IGN was a bit tepid.

      The anime was alright, though I am very picky about time travel paradoxes. Very few movies or stories in general ever get TT right. They think that you can go into the past to change one thing, and when you go back, nothing else changed except that one thing.

        The anime is quite good at the story but the game is more specific in terms of story and character details. All the core parts are in the anime.

        Yes, the Visual Novel (game) is better than the anime. They almost always are, but this time they actually did a good job with the anime.

        Anime is good, VN is good. VN offers multiple endings, and a more see as you play game. Having seen the anime already, some of the story impact will be reduced. I felt the anime was more emotional, though I'm not saying that the VN was not.

          @lostn: I'm not really a prolific VN player, but I enjoy most VNs I play, from game like ones like Dangan Ronpa and Virtues Last Reward(definitely play 999 first) to story ones like Planetarian, Rewrite and Clannad.

          @Michael15286: Ah, I loved 999 and VLR. Found it hard to get into DR for some reason. It was either the art style or the lack of branching.

          VNs can be so addictive. I just wish they were less niche. Many don't get localized due to not enough demand to justify translation costs.

          @lostn: yeah 999 and VLR are amazing. To top it off, the third game was announced and has a Christmas release date!

          The situation about VNs not coming over is turning around quickly with publishers becoming more open and realizing the potential market in the west. Sadly, this has cause a sharp drop in fan made translations, which were often made with higher quality andhad a better experience than some official translations.

          The VNs that do make it on steam are expensive. Usually $40. Over the weekend I bought Clannad HD and The Fruit of Grisaia for $20 each, which is half price.

          Still very expensive compared to the deals we expect on games that are more much expensive to make than VNs. But when there's so few of us, we each have to pay more to keep them in business or else they're going to stop.

          Japan makes so much awesome stuff, except it's all niche and only otakus are keeping them afloat in the west.

          @lostn: Wow, good prices on a couple of decent VNs! I kickstarted the CLannad HD edition, so I'm still waiting for my physical box before I get to replay it. Prices are usually high but wait a year or so and the price will drop or have a decent discount just like any other game.

          Steam is a good foot in the door of the western world for VNs and other Japanese things. I'm sure Japanese games will only get more plentiful and cheaper in the future.

          @Michael15286: Yes, the only shame is Steam versions have adult content removed. I don't demand adult content, but if it was originally there, I want everything in tact.

          That said, I don't know if Clannad had any adult content.

          I've seen the anime, and was a little disappointed with it actually. For the VN to make up for it, the girls other than Nagisa need to have a fulfilling romantic arc that moves the story in a completely different direction to the one the anime (and After Story) took. Nagisa is probably the 'true' route, but I didn't find her story that interesting. I would have picked Kyou.

          I also bought If My Heart Had Wings for $5, which was 67% off. I'm trying to work out how to install the restoration patch.. these things are always poorly supported since they are fan made, and a bit fiddly to get set up. But this VN looks really gorgeous.

    Has anyone played hatsune miku project diva f 1 and 2? I'm thinking buying one, and I'm wondering which is the better game, thank you.

      I personally think that project diva f 1 has the better songs. Gameplay should be almost the same on both games.
