Why don't they ever have the medium grain on discount…

My thoughts exactly. I think they only discount long grain rice because it sucks.

I find this rice is really tasteless and breaks up really easy.

Yeah I agree. It's a good bargain, but I like the Sun Rice medium-grain.

Sunlong(Long Grain) is tasteless, I rather buy some Thai Rice from Asian grocery

  • IGA's black & gold brand was $2 for 2kg pack couple week back
I own both brand and IMO black & gold brand one tasted better then this stuff

    • why not post this up couple of weeks back? I would have gone grab some…

      • too bad the deal was only for a day and I was told about it after that day
but luckily the family snapped up 20 kg for $20 hehehe
also just juice 2lt was going for $1.75 or somthing lol

Long Grain was Made in Thailand. They are hard and tasteless. When they change the country of origin from Australia to Thailand, I have given up buying this brand.

Growing rice requires heaps of water. Hence it is not suited to this country. I'm glad to see less and less Australian grown rice.

      • Parts of this country get plenty of rain. Whether it's worth growing rice, instead of sugar or bananas for instance is another question.

Unfortunately most of the Australian rice is grown in the Murray-Darling River Basin in southern NSW.

"Rice adds a relatively small amount of economic value to the water used"

          from http://www.urbanecology.org.au/topics/waterforrice.html

"Although attempts to grow rice in the well-watered north of Australia have been made for many years, they have consistently failed because of inherent iron and manganese toxicities in the soils and destruction by pests."

          from http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rice#Australia

  • I never buy rice from Coles/Woolies. IMO this rice the best, you can get it from pretty much any Asian grocery store, a bag of 25kg is about $40.

This isn't as cheap as the last time I bought it when it was on offer for $10 at Coles. The rice is really crap and I didn't like it one bit. Had a hard time finishing the 10kg of awful rice.

    • Yep. Perhaps it would be a bargain if they paid us to take it away…

  • you can always mix different types of rice to have a better taste
IMO i would mix cheap rice with brown rice so at least i know i am having some good rice

  • yeah when they changed from australia to thailand the rice aint crash hot

  • This is Thailand rice and as others have mentioned is not that good in terms of taste. You can still get the good Product of Australia Sunlong, but you need to purchase the 20+kg version at your Asian grocery store. You'll notice the current Aussie product has also gone down slightly in quality in terms of shorter more uneven grains.
