  • Which store is this? And would they have this on at other stores as well?

    • macarthur square(campbelltown), nsw

      • are these all screw in or are there some bayonet?

  • Bulbs at the top left in your image, are they GU10 or MR16's?

    • +1

      5W MR16s - $10

      • Cheers! Now to see if there is any local stock :)

  • Thanks OP, really looking for this now I need to find the stocks around Canberra.

  • Looks to be store specific.

  • I wouldn't buy a general light bulb under 900 lumens, that currently means it needs to be 12W. Otherwise it's not bright enough.

    • The 9.5w version is 806lumens - this I find bright enough for bedrooms and say the toilet…

In terms of kitchen and living areas - I agree perhaps 2 x 12w = 1055 lumens is what you need for workspaces and bathrooms - to see clearly in mirror etc…

In bathrooms though, it's more important to have not only an overhead light but a light above the mirror - otherwise the light is behind you.

You don't want rooms like toilets and bedrooms to be super bright and 806lumens is more than enough.

    • Lighting… it depends! I have eight pendants in a lounge/dining area and put 7.5W in each. Any more would be too much.

  • Can anyone confirm this is nationwide

    • I'm about two hours before I can head into a DSE store……
      Be good to know.

    • +1

      Confirmed.

Just be mindful that Philips has released an updated version of these globes that are not only more efficient, but smaller size…

They are cheap at this price, but the newer version will be less intrusive and use slightly less electricity.

    • Are they at Bunnings?

      • Yep they are in Bunnings…and Masters too I think…the globe has a slightly different shape too…

      • The old 12.5W as shown here is 1055 lumens, the new version is the same output from 10.5W. Previously the 14W was the brightest in a larger bulb size but that has been changed to the smaller size and there is now a larger 18W with ~ 2000 lumens output.

At $4, worth picking these ones up I think m…….

Grabbed a few, changed out nearly all my lights.

      • Which store did you visit?

  • Full price at Sydney cbd store

  • And another 10% off today, mates rates…..

  • Yay! One of the DSE bargains that I've acutually got (and is of use to me!)
Got enough to finish the whole house from the Adelaide CBD branch

  • Just got a few, but a lot were sold out. Got a 4pack of 5.5w MR16s for $15, and the 12.5w were reduced to $5 each.

Only got one 9.5w screw warm white, the rest were cool white which I don't like. Other stores may vary.

  • Got some at this reduced price in WA. Screw type for me so no problems with stock. Thanks OP.

    • Which store?

      • +1

        Belmont.

  • got some 9w bulbs CW

I showed them the 10% off storewide but they gave me $10 off instead lol but whose complaining haha

  • +1

OP, 12w are $5…. (also discounted)

    Maybe I ammend post.
    Thanks

  • Who's bright idea was this….

    • +2

      Watt are you talking about?

  • Thanks! I just bought 30 of them and replaced everything in my house with them.
$10 for a 4 pack LED downlights is downright cheap.

  • It says on the box to "use in open fitting" - does that mean it's not safe to use them in an enclosed fitting like the oyster light of a ceiling fan?

I tried Googling it, but most sites just say they won't last as long or advise to use different globes/fittings… does anyone here have experience with LED globes in ceiling fan lights?

    • I'd be interested in knowing this too

    • Overheats the electronics in globe. Won't last long but your mileage varies. My 9w has lasted 10 months so far and still going. Used every night

      • It's fine in a fitting/enclosed cover…it may just be at risk of overheating and shortening the life.

They said the same about CFLs but I ran them in fittings fine myself…

        At this price, it's fine.

What I do is keep the box and the receipt inside it and write on it which light I've used it in - that way if it does say fail in 12 months, I will go straight back to the shop for a refund.

Did it many times with CFLs no worries.

        • I rang up Philips and they said it was "safe" to use in enclosed fittings, they just can't guarantee they'll last for the 15 or whatever years they claim on the box. He said they may only last for months or longer. Pretty much like a regular globe.

I'll use them elsewhere in the house, but they do kinda suck in the ceiling fans I have because the globe sits sideways in the oyster, so half of it's dark and the other half is bright because of the "snow cone" design of the globe.

For the price, it's awesome. Though I find the 7/7.5 watt globes that claim they are equivalent to 40 watts, they are way, way brighter than the 40 watt halogen globes I was using.

Marion (SA) have a heap of them if anyone's looking for some!

    • I've used the cheap-o ALDI 13w in ceiling fans and couple of them have died after a year but they are pretty crap quality/design.
The rest have been going OK for a couple of years now.

  • Champion OP, pretty sure I cleared out DSE at Cockburn yesterday.

  • my place is officially LED friendly !

    • Mine too. changed ALL mine out
Downlights and the screw in fittings.

  • Just picked up 8 MR16 from Robina on the Gold Coast. Still had around 30+ left.

  • About 50 left at Macquarie Centre (Sydney). They also had some of those special $50 HDMI cables on clearance for $15. :)

  • Merged from All Philips LED Bulbs (3w-12.5w, Warm White & Cool) $5 @ Dick Smith Geelong VIC

All Philips LED bulbs are $5. Many bulbs were available this afternoon (22nd, Dec).It is a good deal for $5.

    • a great deal for five bucks, especially the higher powered ones , say 7w and up.

        • +2

Apparently there's still some spare ;)

          • +1

@spackbace: sometimes I put in error's that are intentional

    • I saw these "bulbs" at the Frankston, VIC store. But I think they were less than $5. Only screw mounts left. No bayonets.

      • If anyone spots bayonet bulbs in VIC I'd appreciate a heads up…

    • Any in nsw? 3 stores near me don't even stock them

      • I bought some last week in castle hill, that was 1 week after the original thread - they were displayed as full price but I asked and they scanned as per this original bargain - $2, $3, $4, $5… I even got further 10% off since they didnt have a printer which I ordered online and had to take the display model instead… :)

    • Most if not all stores would be out.
Generally the 9w go first then the rest.
Generally the bayonets run out before the Edison screw.

    • Heaps of all types (BC & ES) at Kotara NSW, bought some today! Also saw them in Orange NSW a week or so ago. 5W $2, 7W $3, 9W $4, 12W $5. Cool and warm white. I reckon the 5W L.E.D. are brighter than the 15W CCFL's I'm replacing. Highly recommended for $2! Have yet to try the 12W, I anticipate the need for sunnies if the 5W & 7W are anything to go by.

      • 12w: They're super bright. I would recommend using them in a garage or Kitchen.
