Urgently need cost effective 4G mobile data - work from home and no ADSL :(

Hey Guys - just moved into a new house and after much agony over the last few weeks with them, Optus has told us there is a major fault and we won't have internet access before Xmas.

I work from home and use about 500mb a day (I'm in education), more if I'm doing virtual classrooms.

Can someone please suggest a cost effective, temporary 4G provider that I can get switched on today/immediately and use till the new year? I've already used my 3gb of phone data and extra is $10 a gb with horrible rounding up of mbs.

Thanks so much!

Cheers :)

    https://www.telstra.com.au/mobile-phones/prepaid-mobiles/30-…
Half price $30 prepaid starter kit.
Activate it on the prepaid freedom plus to get a bonus 5GB.

If you order through CashRewards, you'll get $10 cashback too, effectively making it $5.
It says Metro Next Day Delivery, not sure if that includes weekends. They delivered mine with StarTrack Express if that helps.

We are in a very similar boat, we recently signed up to optus 15gb a month for 80 dollars.
It has been pretty good, main draw card being that we can have 5 individual connections, maximising bandwidth.
I am not sure if that helps but it has been great for us!

If it's temporary it may be worth considering dialup (i know lel) which Dodo do for 12 bucks a year… probably completely unsuitable for 500MB a day though :D

I feel your pain as I'm in a similar situation of a month without internet as Telstra dicked me around like they do. I've been using a buncha Telstra wifi modems I had lying around so I can say: be careful with your mobile internet usage on a desktop. Always remember to disconnect and make sure unnecessary applications aren't running or you can go through data pretty fast.

You can try Virgin, BYO 4G data $40 for 12 GB.

  • Awesome - thanks guys!

Still no phone line so not even dialup :)

There is a Virgin shop an hour away; headed there now for the deal Yummy suggested :)

Thank you again :D Feeling much better about my class tonight!!

  • Get any Telstra/Optus/Vodafone SIM's and switch them into a spare phone. There's a bunch recently. You'll pay $10-15 for 3-6GB (a lot of promos on atm. Normally $30 is only 2/3GB).
