Woolworths Roadside or NRMA Roadside?

Hi All,

So Currently my dad's car is insured with Woolworths comprehensive insurance. I got a quote for Roadside assistance and it's about $50-60 annually.
On the other hand my dad has been a NRMA member for 26 years and it's time for my membership renewal. He is a 'GOLD' member and gets a discount of $14 and so therefore need to pay $96. He is on the 'classic care' plan.

Anyway the question is, do I change over to Woolworths or is there perhaps something more than just price I'm missing?

Thanks

Don't forget your "gold" covers multiple vehicles.

On the other hand I've been a NRMA member for 26 years.

    Is this statement accurate?

    • haha I thought it'd be easier to write in the first person, but yeah good spotting. I'm actually helping out my dad here :P

So your dad's membership will cover multiple vehicles so it works out cheaper in the long run to stay with NRMA.

          awesome. Thanks nocure! Appreciate it!
Actually I realised MY car has complimentary roadside assistance (I'm with Allianz on that one)

So I assume now… it'd be cheaper to go with Woolworths.. but if I do decide to change the car insured with Allianz I lose the loyalty benefit of NRMA..(having switched over from A to W)

stick with the club, nrma. better service and you get discounts o different things (assume the same as racq).
our car broke down (well battery failed) wife had the car, I was at work unavailable. rather than muck around Racq could replace the battery - good discount with gold member, cheaper than others and better warranty than buying a battery elsewhere. And of course they installed and took the old one away - all while wife was stauck at school picking kids up.

    Stay with the NRMA…

    Woolworths roadside sounds crap…
    From their T&Cs http://insurance.woolworths.com.au/sites/default/files/Woolw…
Sounds like they won't make any effort to help you if you break down and there are no tow trucks.

Doesn't sound like they provide free towing or have a towing allowance.

If you have the higher level packages with the NRMA they will help you out to get home, provide you with a Taxi etc. I believe the highest level they will help you out if you are interstate and hire a car and it breaks down they will arrange help.

Even the NRMA basic package gets you so much more.

    • They do free towing when it's within 100km of a city or major town but it seems from all their exclusions it is only provided when your car magically breaks down. Only provide $10 of fuel, I wonder how much they charge for any more. Towing is already provided free with comprehensive insurance when making a claim whether it's your fault or not.

Such a joke, I'm spewing I paid for this 'service'. Live and learn.

    Youi insurance includes roadside assistance.

we wont provide our service when: circumstances are beyond our control such as extraordinary delays caused by extreme weather conditions such as a severe accident or traffic congestion. So you better dont break down during peak hour.

    also during unexpected event STORM!

Owner or drivers related faults sound like if you have forgotten to switch off the light caused flat battery does not count but most newer car will notify you anyway if you have forgotten to switch off the light. (what about if you have forgotten to switch off the interior light/reading light which caused the flat battery, which my neighbour usually does and i always knock on his door and inform him.)

  • Great thanks all! I'll stick with NRMA :)

  • List everything included with both choices and compare them directly to what is important to you and especially your dad's situation. Find out who Woolies and other firms are using for their Roadside Assistance, as they do NOT have staff and vehicles running around town. Oh, look, like the Shell AutoCare a few years back, it was simply RACQ, Queensland local Nrma. Do more research online first, compare and ask your dad what he wants.

  • I was with Woolworth roadside assistance for the last 3 years until July 12th this year. I needed its service once last year when the car did not start. I contacted Woolworth for assistance, I was advised to check petrol and other things, etc. Finally the assistance came and the battery was changed with a warranty of 2 years. This time in early July, my car did not start so I called the Woolworth"s road assistance. To my surprise, I was informed that my roadside service already expired (Woolworth renewed it automatically in April)! I then took the NRMA service and NRMA told me that the battery was dead so it was again changed!! I then cancelled the Woolworth's roadside service on 12th July and asked for the refund. I was promised to refund the money, not from April, but from 12th July!!! What a service.

  • Stay Clear of Woolworth Roadside assistance - Terrible experience - could even do a absolute basic job of Jump Start properly

100% sure I had a flat battery, the person comes via Woolworth roadside assistance and tries to jump start my car but he couldn't. I asked him to put a new battery 2-3 times but he was adamant its an alternator issue.

As jump start didn't work I booked an towing of my car, after 30 mins of waiting I get a call, extraction can only be done next day as they are busy. I booked Uber back home leaving my car behind …booked another uber next to rental car. Paid for a new rental car and I called one of my Friend Mechanic , He comes in tries to jump start my car and boom it worked….He changed my battery and I was all set.

I had to pay unnecessary for the Uber Rides and Rental due the incompetency …Apparently the person who tried to jump start my car was carrying an inferior quality jump starter incapable to reviving cars with absolutely zero battery

  • Stay with NRMA where the membership offers a lot more perks (discounts on movie tix, 4 cents off fuel, etc). Also very helpful if you travel interstate in the car as other state clubs have a reciprocal arrangement and hence you automatically get serviced by them.

  • better check what they offer. The most important part is how many KMs they can tow for free.
And the fuel discount is also good. I save around 2$-3$ each filling time and I do fill 1-2 times a week so can save $100 a year
