  • How does this compare to other car wash in the Meguiar's range - ie the purple NXT one or the yellow Ultimate wash and wax one?

    • I have always used the purple nxt and its been fine on all the various cars i have had over the prev 15 years or so. The soap is just there to help you shift the dirt off the car, so if you use the two bucket system you will be fine using the gold wash. I am stuck using the nxt wash now as my bubz loves purple so pretty much thats all i can use. Lol.

    • Have only tried the purple NXT as well so no idea about the yellow and gold. The purple NXT seems to have lots of suds and it's quicker to get dirt off compared to say Armor All.

I found that Gold Class is definitely above Soft Wash Gel (pink), but NXT is feels even more slippery than Gold Class. I've stuck with NXT since trying it. NXT is regularly available at 20% off from Supercheap Auto.

can anyone recommend some products to wash the car at home?? also would need interior cleaning stuff (leather seats and dashboard)

    • +3

      A sponge and a bucket.

    • +1

      pressure washer would be ideal
otherwise hose with one of those fancy multi-pattern spray guns
      two or more buckets
      microfibre wash mitt(s)
      wheel brush
      microfibre drying towels
      car shampoo
      clay bar + spray detailer
      polish
      wax
      foam polish/wax applicators
      microfibre buffing cloths
IPA solution for removing residual wax/polish

      • haha. that info overload. prob best going into a detailing retailer, esp for microfibres. Good microfibres help so much (compraed to the cheap China made ones)

        • any mf is better than a rag or old t shirt

        • I bought these fancy ones from amazon for i think $18 usd for 8 (about 24 aud) and they are good but nothing special. Costco have a 36 pack for about $30 so i'll get them next time i need.

        • @thedude23:
bunnings have 20 for $10, cheapest place i have found that have mf

meguiars is the bottom level of car care.. everything they sell in those shops are average. check out

    or even a kit http://www.waxit.com.au/collections/washing-kits

I thought armoral was the bottom level?

      • +3

I thought Morning Fresh was at the bottom?

      • Nah, armorall actually has some products that reviewed well to some car detailers for sheer cleaning power. Turtle wax is hot garbage.

      • This one is cheaper

SCA Value Car Wash - 2.5 Litre
        $9.99

Great value, you don't need anything more!

    • oh yeah, "bottom" if you compare it to other more expensive/premium brands.

      wolf's chemicals > p21s > meguiars > armorall > shop's own brand > spit

      • You forgot spit > urine > puke

        • i see your puke and raise you a runny turd

  • Is the gift pack worth getting?

    • +1

In terms of value it's not bad if you're after Meguiar's products specifically, considering the price of the individual products (The normal price for the polish is already $30), or if you're getting it as a gift. But if it's for yourself and you're not going to be using everything in the set, it's better to wait for individual items to go on sale.

Autoglym Bodywork Shampoo & Conditioner 2.5 Litre can be sourced from Supercheapauto ebay with store collect (code COLLECT15) for $13.17, plus 3.3% off from Cashrewards would make it under $13. Can't think of any better product than Autoglym at double of this price point.

    • Thanks! That's excellent value, and been waiting to give the AutoGlym stuff a go. I have only heard good things about them.

      • Definitely try Autoglym Vinyl & Rubber Protectant! That's the only product I found to be able to cure the slightly "white" black rubber and plastic parts on car. Nearly 40% off atm.

        • If you mean the black plastic bumpers around the car… try linseed oil.

          @yeh:
Oil? Not recommended on plastic, definitely not on rubber.

This will be $15.99 at SCA from Wednesday the 16th for those who can wait. NXT, Soft Wash and Ultimate at the same price too.

Other notable bargain is the pack of 15 SCA brand microfibre cloths at $14.99 (half price).

Also Bowden's range 25% off if you're after a chamois or clay bar to finish off the job.

Oh and wash buckets are 2 for $1. Sorry to hijack this thread :)
