  • What's better the sonic heads or the Colgate ones?

    • +2

These. I've tried the Colgate one, hated it - already used the sensitive head and it still damaged by gums. I have very healthy gums - regularly go in for 6 month cleans, never have gingivitis, only bleeding happens if I've burned myself… and I'm in the oral health field.

I use the white version of this tb, as at the time the black one came out, it was very hard to get black refills.

Sonicare hands down. I have the same toothbrush as this and I'd recommend it over any others, dentist grade clean every time, I don't know any other toothbrush that uses the same technology. :)

I haven't tried the Colgate one, but have tried Oral-B and Philips - the Philips is much better. Also this model brush is better than the cheap ones. You don't really need all the brushing modes or the silly glass. The mechanism vibrates faster than the cheaper ones and has Li-Ion batteries.

    • Thanks for the reply guys :D

  • Is this worth the jump? I'm using a $40 electric toothbrush and need to get it replaced. A Braun one I think.

$200 seems like a lot of money for a toothbrush.

Not really unless you really need it now. I've seen them around $160 online/ebay. Got one for $150 being cleared out at Harvey Norman (very unusual price).

Shaver shop is worth keeping an eye on.

  • Cool thanks for the tip. Is it worth using this rather than one that is $40-100?

    • Check the Philips sonicare site for specs. I think this one has 60,000 oscillations. Next one down is 30,000. You'd have to presume the more the better.

Oh no, maybe not. They both have 31,000. I was sure mine was 60,000. So that would make this model a good buy if you can find it cheaper.

The ones under $100 have NiMih batteries and slower motors. Not terrible, but why not get a good one?

Also worth getting a Waterpik. Not sure about the Philips version - I haven't tried it.

Didn't like the Philips Airflosser, get a proper waterpik.

        • +1

I reckon the Waterpik is really good, particularly if you have tight gaps. I got one off eBay uk for about $100.

        • I agree waterpik is the go. I have braces and couldn't live without it. And I love these Phillips toothbrushes, they are awesome. I don't care how expensive they are, cheaper than fixing up cavities. ☺

          @Ronnnie:
Exactly. I know a dentist who does the rule of 10:
          1. If you don't use a toothpaste and toothbrush properly, the filling is 10x as expensive.
          2. If you don't get the filling done, the root canal and crown is 10x as expensive.
          3. If you don't have the RCT and crown done, the extraction and subsequent replacement is 10x as expensive.

    Am I missing something here..

The cashback form doesn't list Bing Lee as an eligible retailer?

    • You're right. The cashback doesn't apply based on the form.
