    YES YOU CAN

    Here we go again

  • +15

gift cards will be worthless when dse is in receivership, won't they?

    • +1

By all means buy if you intend to spend in shop today but don't hold on to the gift card for too long.

    • +5

Maybe they should have a deal for DSE Shares

20% off DSE Shares. Buy 100 Shares for $14, 200 Shares for $28 or 500 shares for $70

      • +1

Unless ASX do promo codes like DICK20OFF, no sale. :-p

        • LOL, any cash back if I buy ASX shares through cash reward?

      • Can I get a price match at JB?

      • +8

Just bought some, but when I rocked up at the ASX they said they never had stock to begin with.

    • +1

Agreed. You're just an unsecured creditor.

Paying with a credit card may give you some protection in the short term (you can get a charge back).

  • +3

Anyone want to take the risk with DSE share price at 35 cents ?

Good for the short term but definitely not recommended for the long run

  • +1

$100, $250 and $500 denominations. Will be emailed on the 21st December.

  • Hopefully Dick Smith hasn't gone bankrupt by the time you want to use them.

  • +1

    Any exclusions?

    • +2

      NO

    • You can't buy DSE gift cards in-store with the scoopon DSE gift card.

    • You can't use them to buy things DSE don't sell.

    • +1

Purchases made after bankruptcy are excluded.

    • +1

      Any inclusions?

    • and maybe you can't buy on their ebay store

  • Happy last Christmas DSE http://imgur.com/pZrlI2u

They will not be around after May 2016.

    • +2

Will just have to wait and see.

Isn't competition good for us though? If DSE is not around, JB and Harvey Norman will have a monopoly on the market. This will lead to higher prices and less Ozbargain worthy sales…

      • Competition is great and it's possible that a private equity firm might snap the chain up for a steal early in the new year. Fingers' crossed as 1 less competitor usually = higher prices.

        • +1

and it's possible that a private equity firm might snap the chain up for a steal early in the new year

im in for 5 million dollars lol

        • @easternculture: Let's go 50/50 and offer them 8 - Surely they'll accept haha!

        • @rawm:

done . pm me to organise a meeting lol

  • I like these Dick Smith deals and price drops. All good if you are going to use immediately.

I just claimed $100 back (via credit card price protection) on the PS4 I bought from Dick Smith back in 2014 (tax invoice = $500, paid $400 thanks to eBay 20% off, now net price = $300).

    • May I ask what credit card gives a year to claim price protection???

      • +1

Coles Credit card has an insurance thing that cost 1% of the balance at the end of the month but comes with 2 years price protection and 6 month merchandise protection (lost, broken, stolen = money back).

        • Correct. Although 1% of $0 is $0 so if you generally pay your card off each month, the protection does not cost anything.

        • This is handy. I have 28 degrees card but the feature is not as good. It only covers for 6 months.

  • Definitely an option for anyone wanting an iPad Pro WiFi 32GB

This iPad is currently $999 SAVE $249

    Buy $1000 gift card(s) for $900

    Total Saving $349

    • +1

Gift cards don't arrive until the 21st so this special might end before then. Then you will be stuck with $1000 worth of DSE gift cards.

      • Ah bugger! Thought they might be sent via email. Didn't check.

        Luckily I haven't purchased.

Edit: They are sent by email, still not til the 21st!!

        • +1

Wouldn't risk it, go to ow and price match it there. The potential to save a further $50 is not worth the risk of being stuck with $1000 worth of DSE gift cards!

      • Put a $100 deposit today and got one on hold at the Sydney George St store. I have one month to finalise the payment.

  • Does Cashrewards get a referral commission on items where cashback is not payable?

  • +4

I paid 1,250 to coles and got 1,375 DSE giftcard.
Last week, I purchased an iphone 6s plus from dse. The salesman refused to give me $200 itunes card as the bonus (https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/224859). Because I had already saved money from coles…

    WTF!!!

    • +5

Hope you challenged it, or took your business to a different DSE store. Their terms in the catalogue doesn't say "If you got your gift cards from coles, no $200 gift card".

How does the douche in store know where you got the gift card, could of been last years xmas present that you're spending still?

    • How did he know you got the giftcard at a discount?

      • Each gift card was loaded with $110 value.

        • Still could have been a gift to you. He wouldn't know.

        • +2

          @Firey1989:

I will lodge a complaint to Consumer Affairs to see what will happen.

    • +3

His name must be Smith because he sure is a Dick.

.. Why r u blaming staff for it mate…it clearly states that you cant use dicksmith gift cards to buy other gift cards..!! You don't expect everything to be as u want…?? If u had paid by cash or any other cards .. U were entitled to get $200 worth of itunes card.. You went to salesperson with gift cards which does not allow salesperson to process transaction with bonus itunes voucher…you cant have two things in both hand mate…You need to read full term and condition about their gift card policy… Not just the line that fits tour purpose..!!!

      • +1

Then they should not have structured the deal that way. It's free itunes gift card for god's sake. Can't say paying 0 for something is still technically buying. It's give away.

I was in the same situation but the guy was nice enough to try all venues. Otherwise I would have exploded about how poorly they were treating the deal.

        • Totally agree. It's a gift, not a purchase.

        • @Love a bargain:

Not to mention I can use dicksmith gift card to buy itunes gift cards online too.

But probably, with online purchase, they can rip us off with the shipping fees.

          Such a joke.

        • @dennis3107:

I got it too.. But was sent unactivated card….!! Instore i couldnt buy it with my giftcards…! Staff was polite enough to read me out of their gift card policy.. Took it to my chin and came back.. I cant believe why we always blame poor salespeople who have zero authority whatsoever..!
Overall though, blaming salesperson for refusing to offer OP $200 itunes card is nuts..!!!
          Plus,
Any offer thats appears in transaction although it may be bonus, still consider as part of transaction so exclusion applies when those lines are included..!!! Basic 101 of retail bible..!!!

        • @double00: DSE salesmen have more power than you think. They quoted higher prices to me on several items during the sale but when i was willing to walk away; they stopped me most of the times with a "better" deal which they forgot to apply on their POS machine.

        • @ozdesi: .. I have notice that too.. Most of time i think they dunt even have idea about some stupid code they have to give discount..!!

    • Gift card is just another form of payment. It is none of his business whether you saved money or not. If you pay with card, can he say "I know you have cash-back, bonus points or AMEX offer, etc…., so no itunes card for you'…. No wonder DS is collapsing with this kinds of salesman.

    • +1

bought mine with ds gift card and received bonus 200 itunes, you need to ask nicely to the staff

      • +1

Can I take a picture of this and bring it up with Dicksmith? lol

The thing is I wanted to buy an iPad Pro and there was the only one at Bourke Street mall and the guy was such an ass. I was very nice. I said could you please and they deflected with "you are not the first one" retort. So doesn't matter how nice I could have been.

I went to the one in Emporium and that store was trying to get a stock transfer from Bourke Street and they flat out declined. Those d!ck heads.

  • Stock these up at your own risk. Don't think they will be around much longer after New Year.

    • +1

Recently been to Morley & Cannington DSE, served by some really helpful & friendly staffs.
I'm not sad to see DSE gone, just pity for those good staffs who are losing their jobs……

    • Just went to Malvern, stock looking a bit thin, with lots of cheaper items on clearance at a quarter of normal prices.

    • Yeah, there's something concerning about the recent sale of these giftcards by both DSE and Masters. As if they're trying to plug an immediate cashflow problem. I don't think I'd touch these things even at 20% off, given the delay before you receive them.

  • Assuming they do outlast the card expiry, here is a an odd ball, say by that time you still haven't found anything to buy (being an Ozb'ner:), can you buy a new dick smith gift card with the expiring one?

  • -1

this deal was available with at Coles during the "Massive sale" two weeks back… I managed to save ~20% extra on a laptop and camera, but didn't buy extra cards as some already pointed out to the obvious risk.

  • Do they still stock macbooks? Site says out of stock

  • Dick Smith Digital Gift Cards 10% off

Would i get 15% off if i opted for the Analog Version

  • Don't forget the 6% cashreward!
    http://www.cashrewards.com.au/search/scoopon

    • Please read the post :)

      • -4

Damn, just bought $600……no rewards, not happy.

        • -1

          With yourself ?
Besides.. didnt you save $60, thats a reward…

        • -1

lol $60 is enough saving for you, don't ask for too much

  • -1

Are you able to use these online? If so, how can you use multiples, what is the procedure, just at checkout?

  • Would be a very good deal normally, but won't touch DSE anymore due to persistent "dickness"

Bought $1 Optus sim from the deal of the other day, still haven't received it yet. Is Scoopon dodgy?

    • mine also still not arrived yet

  • I recently bought a car mount from dicksmith online (C&C) Arndale store. Did not recieve confirmation from dicksmith and went to Arndale store for pickup next day. Was told its soldout and will receive a call from dicksmith for refund. No one called for a week. So emailed them and asked them for a refund. Got no response from them. Openned a dispute case in paypal. Still no reply. Scalated to a claim and finally got refunded. Feel something is wrong with them. They used to be very quick in repsonding to emails

  • Can I use multiple gift cards at once (assume I am buying a GoPro)?

  • +1

  • +1

    We're all screwed!!!

    • Yeah. Fxxk DS! I've $600 ToT…..Unused.

      • I think your purchase is still within 30 days,so contact your credit card issuer to reverse it if within the T&Cs.

        • Totally, Id be doing a credit card chargeback or paypal dispute straight away..
