Email from Red Thread Studios re: Free Film - The Last Station

I can't find the original listing for this free film promotion, I guess it has been removed.

Here is an email I just received from Red Thread Studio.

"At some stage over the weekend Oz Bargain placed an invitation to attend a screening of THE LAST STATION on their website. Unfortunately Oz Bargain did not have the authority to do so and as such all bookings placed through them over the weekend have been cancelled. This includes the booking made by you.

Each cinema runs a doorlist for these invitation only events and as your booking has now been deleted from our system, your name will not appear on the doorlist and you will not be granted entry.

I apologise for any inconvenience this may case and urge you to take up any complaints with Oz Bargain."

    Yep…got that also.

Wonder what the deal was with it seeing that there were no restrictions when signing on for it.

  • The magazine that ran the promo is for teachers/lecturers in film media. I wonder how they know where people booked from. I suppose it'd be annoying if you were one of their members and seats were always filled before members got a look-in.

I guess we'll have to wait and see if we all get the "cancel" email.

    • Each time you click a link, the site that the link was hosted on (in this case OzB) is tagged as the 'referrer' which forms part of the information that is presented to link's web host (Red Thread Studios).

This is so they can track where the traffic to their site is coming from.

This always happens unless you specifically block it using a firewall, or by changing your browser settings.

So if the link wasn't clicked from OzB, and instead copy and pasted into a new browser, would this have then leave it without a referrer?

If OzB does anything, it certainly teaches organisations ahard lesson on how to properly define and setup any special offers.

        • Yes, that is one way around it :)

  • got the email too

On that note, we should take this deal to Nando's to see if they'll match it.

        I got the email too……

"Tomsco"…. I agree .. seem like the Grill D and Nandos all over again.

As far as I could read the terms & condition.. its 1st come 1st serve….

  • Does anyone know the website so we can see if there are still tickets available?

Sounds like the same sort of mistake that Bang The Table made. If they had wanted to restrict access to the registration site they should have put in appropriate authentication. It's no good putting up a website and hoping that it will not be discovered.

Red Studios flick pass the problem that they created to Ozbargan, nice .

Next time i get in trouble with the wife i am sending her here :)

  • EDIT: Links removed

  • Well. Please do not post links to Screenings.org.au. The reason why the offer was pulled has been outlined in this forum post. Some of the related domains are permanently banned to prevent those "freebies" from being posted, but the problem with Red Thread Studios is that for many new films they might have completely different URLs on different domains. Unless ATOM and RTS tell us in advance there is no way we can "help them" by limiting their offers from appearing on OzBargain.

And I do get quite a few "complains" in emails. I even get complaining emails from some who got their tickets cancelled (10 of them!!!) and some have no idea what OzBargain is. Well…
