    • not sure about tgg's one, but the jb one has bad reviews about wash time at least http://www.productreview.com.au/p/samsung-ww75j4213iw.html

    • Samsung are priced lower overall because they are trying to recoup sales after all the incidents involving their washing machines, which is super susspect, why would I buy a washing machine $100-200 less then the competition, either washing machines are all overpriced like crazy, or Samsung are taking corners to bring the price down… or they are taking a loss to influence customer confidence, but how likely is that :P

owned Samsung washer & the back "drum spider holder" broke after about 3~4 years…..use of cheap parts!

        • yes same happened to me. samsung front loaders are awful, repair guy said stay away from them 7/8 repair guys i rang wouldnt touch samsung front loaders

  • +1

some will say, don't touch LG….

    i won't touch Samsung….

    • +1

I wouldn't touch either for a washing machine!

Been using my Samsung for 7 years now and there are 5 LGs for people to use at work. No problems.

Those people are idiots who don't know anything about Samsung or LG except what they hear in Australia's racist and incompetent mainstream media.

      • There we go… the racist card again! This time on washing machines no less :(.

Listen tendollar, maybe people's opinions on Samsung or LG crap is based on personal experience?
You can't argue its cheap… and you cant argue its made in Asia.

And I can certainly tell you 100% fact that I've had two Samsung items, a TV… and a DVD player… both utter crap.
My Mrs owned an LG micro HiFi…. also utter crap.

On the flipside, I've owned a Yamaha HiFi and a Panasonic TV for years and neither have skipped a beat.

My point is, it's got nothing to do with "Australia's racist and incompetent mainstream media". It's got to do with the fact that cheap parts + cheap labour rarely equals quality…. and Samsung and LG are both those things. Don't be offended by the truth.

      • I wont touch LG as the LG phone broke, the LG air con broke, the LG front loader used to randomly leak water all over the floor, and the LG expensive robotvac we have is useless. Warranty is a joke. The only LG product that I've had that is any good is the microwave.

i've got the next one up from this and it's an awesome machine… no regrets at all.

  • I've heard LG front loaders vibrate badly on tiles/floorboards.

    • ours (with directdrive) you can't even hear running

    • +1

yeah, you can really feel the vibration in the laundry when tumble drying on tiles/floorboards. However, I'd suspect it's the same with others too, maybe LG has higher spin speed so more noticeable.
We've had LG FL 7.5kg for 5+ years, very good. now it's on tile over concrete, hardly feel anything at all, minimum noise. maybe not as good as BOSCH, but much cheaper for 7+KGs washers.

    • Ours does. A 22kg slab on top with some additional weight seems to have made it useable though. At our old place with the dryer on top we didnt have this issue.

    • +1

Ours used to wander through the laundry. LG help was no help as I was the only person worldwide with a vibration problem. An LG contractor eventually confirmed the machine should have 2 half moon weights installed around the drum, LG installs only one to save shipping costs. After installation of the second weight the machine is stable and behaves well. That is a few years ago, the new models might have all parts installed to start with.

    • Chances are if the washing machine is wandering or vibrating it means that the machine hasn't been leveled properly when installing it. We initially had the same problem and after playing around with the spirit level and the adjustments under the machine it's been quiet and you can't even hear the machine in the next room. FWIW ours is installed on tiles and right next to our toddler's room… So if it were noisy I'd hear about it.

  • Choice mag has some LG models at the top of their recommended list.

    • +3

Yep… the top 4 front loaders are LG, Miele is 5th. That's a pretty damn good result if you're knocking Miele to 5th!

The LG WD1200D is this specific one the OP linked, and it came 2nd by 1% (@81%).

What's the catch?? It uses more power than any other washer they tested… and takes an extra hour to wash clothes :(.
The remaining top 5 top washers used an average of about 0.32kWh, whereas this model uses almost double at 0.564kWh.

To put it in other words, they tested 78 washers (both front and top loading). And only 3 of them were 0.400kWh+ (this model, 0.421kWh, and 0.417kWh).

Or… the highest rating Top Loader (a Fisher and Paykel 10kg beast), used 0.114kWh.

That's a huge difference to 0.564kWh… at 5 times as much power!

That's its only downside though, and since we arent talking about a fridge (which is on 24/7), it's not a huge cost in real $. Choice states that a washer uses about 0.5% of total energy use in the house. Not a huge deal even if you were to double or even triple that figure.

Probably why it still rated so highly, but mind you its washing the clothes for an extra hour though (which explains the power use I reckon)!

I've said this before, but if you arent a Choice member you really need to sign up… they are obviously very helpful :).

Will this side loader washing machine stretch my undies after three washes ? My old top washer does and I want something more gentle! Anyone know?

    • Lol, its called a front loader.
The front loader have higher rpms, so it could possibly stretch.
      Most have a 'gentle' option.

If you come from a top loader background, be aware u can't add anything during the washing cycle.
The washing cycles are longer (my Samsung takes 2hrs, but there is a quick cycle function)

The positives are that it 'washes' better and it uses less water.

    • I use little washing bags from the $2 shop for all delicates.

  • no wifi??! noppeee

  • Had this delivered today.

Awesome machine. Very quiet compared to the Bosch FL I previously had and it sings you the song of it's people at the end of the wash cycle.

    That's a win for more.
