Sennheiser HD8 DJ Headphones $263.90 @ JB Hi-Fi

110

Picked these up today as soon as I saw the new price. JB Hifi had 30% off the RRP of $443 as $311 for the last few days.

They're now $263.90 which at this price point, you will not find a better reference headphone. Great build quality. Accuracy across all bass, mids and treb. Awesome soundstage, passive noise isolation and minimal sound leaks. However, you'll want to use these with at least a portable amp as they have a high impedance.

One of the many great reviews can be found here https://www.digitaldjtips.com/2015/10/review-sennheiser-hd8-…

I picked up the second to last pair at Harbour Town. If you can't find it in the headphone section of your local store, also ask to look in the Hifi and DJ sections.

This is my second pair as my first pair was swiped by my brother in law. That can be his Xmas present in advance for next year lol.

    I raise you with V-Moda 80
    Or V moda 100

      Sure.

I had a pair of the M80. And meanwhile they were good, they were considered on ears for me. Hence, the clamping got too much after a while of wear. Also being on ear, the noise isolation was quite weak on them.

As for the M100, a great set of cans, but mildly too bass bloated for my liking. Also the cheapest I could find was $265 for a grey import. So if that's your thing, then go for it. I prefer to get local stock for warranty and assurance that they're genuine. Lots of "fakes" floating about these days.

I can appreciate you vouching for them, but as most audiophiles and non audiophiles know, not all hearing are the same. What might sound good to me, may sound crap to others… So I'll retract that portion of my mini review and reword as "They're now $263.90 at which at this price point, you will not find a better reference headphone in MY OPINION" :)

      • Great reviews, I see you're very knowledgeable about headphones. Yes most music I listen to tends to be extremely bass, that's what appealed to me. What's your opinion on these headphones then? Other then noise isolation?

        • +1

I'm by no means a pro (I'm even guilty of buying a pair of Beats Pros at one point EEK!). I've bought so many headphones, earphones etc I'd like to think I can distinguish a good set from a bad set.

These HD8 DJs is a great all rounder headphone for me. They don't exaggerate too much in any of treb, mid or bass (well maybe just a smidgen). They're built great. A real premium quality to them. As mentioned earlier, the noise isolation is reasonably good on these. The only gripe(s) I would have on these are that they can make your ears a little warm and sweat after awhile if you use the leather earcups. Swapping them out with the included velour ones helped. Secondly, although of great quality, the two included cables are long. I mean really looong. That's just my take on it. I guess it's better to have a longer cable just in case, but did I mention how long the cables are? :p

Another great headphone, fantastic clarity, and benefits from a small amp like a topping nx1 which I recommend..

    • Most definitely. I still have mine after 5 years. I use mine with a Fiio e17.

  • How does this compare to mh50xx

and do you need an amp?

    • lol ok you need an amp

      and better the m50x

  • +1

Holy….I thought I'd never see these under $400, let alone $263 EVER!! Jumped on these in a heartbeat!!!

    • I thought exactly the same thing. I bought my first pair $350. So when these came down, I jumped on it straight away.

  • So I get that you may need an amp if trying to use these with an iphone or mp3 player, but what about with a computer or headphone jack of a home theatre receiver?

Looking for something to outdo my aged AD700, particularly in the bass department, but not looking to invest in a bunch of extra equipment.

Edit: Hmm. Looks like I have a FiiO E06 amp already. Forgot I even had it. How are these for games and movies?

  • Most integrated sound cards in computers won't really have the power to drive these to full capacity. They're 95ohms. Most mid to high cards should have a built in head phone amplifier.

As for your home theatre receiver, I'd imagine most modern models would have amplification built in too.

Your Fiio e6 should be fine as they can drive headphones up to like 300ohms from memory.

Games and movies are fine on these. Just keep in mind that these were designed primarily for music though.

  • [probably I should ask it in relevant forum] - What are major difference between a $263.90 headphone (as listed above) and a $30 headphone from target/bigw etc?

    • Sound quality. Build quality. Comfort. Once upon a time I had the same question, but that was gradually answered as I went deeper into the rabbit hole lol

Seriously though, the difference between a $200 odd pair of headphones and a $30 pair are worlds apart. Head-fi.org is a good site to start researching.

      • thnx, I think I gotta try it myself to really understand the difference..

  • Noooo its back to 443.

    • Well that was quick. Sorry to hear you missed out. I guess it was only a one day special. This can now be marked as expired.
