eBay 15% off Deal - Ended Early??

So I put something in my cart to buy ($180 value) when I saw the 15% deal come up, thinking I'd add a few more small things and checkout today - Dec 31st. I've just clicked commit to buy on the original item (didn't add anything) and now the 15% code doesn't work.. Ebay has a banner across the top advertising that it has now ended (a day early apparently), so it's my bad for clicking before reading, but this is infuriating as its cost me ~$30..

Bad eBay! Don't confuse us with deals like this if you're gonna cut it early!

Anyone else been bitten by this sorta promotion?

Yes, there was a mod update on the thread when it happened.

The deal originally was meant to end yesterday evening.

  • My email from eBay says 'ends Dec 31st'. I remember reading their T&C's that it ended 11:59pm December 31st as well..

    Oh well. $30 lesson learned..

Oh yeah, it was the 31st.

  • I just found the same problem, guess I won't be buying anything the major purchase after all, I can wait. Anyone know who we can contact about this, on NYE haha, pretty crap though.

  • Originally it was meant to end midnight 31st but eBay changed it to the 30th midnight but it really ended at around 6PM AEDT.

gezz… 19 pages of thread and OP didnt see it.. obviously OP need to visit ozb more often.

  • Ironically I have been checking OZbargain for deals on and off all day, but didn't look at Forums etc. till now and this was the first thread I saw about it. I would have thought they would email everybody to warn them, I certainly didn't get one. Oh well, won't get that time back. Happy New Year everybody, I do have better ways to spend NYE. I was waiting for an answer about a product, or I would have bought it earlier. The irony….

Ebay decided to apply the 15% off to the time remaining on the offer.

I called eBay and explained how I didn't expect the deal to end earlier, and they honor that and said they will give me the rebate in 20 days or so.
So what I did was purchase what I need, then call ebay again, then they get the transaction in the card and told me the rebate will appear in paypal in a 20 days

Eventually I worked out that if you do "Add to Cart" for one or more items, then you can apply the code before confirming the purchase - in other words BEFORE you have to "Commit to buy", so you remove at least one level of guesswork fro the equation.

I did this in the grey zone after the deal had been shortened, but before the code stopped working.

So if it all goes pear shaped and they try to renege, then I have a bunch of confirmations and screen shots and so on showing the $150 discount. (Technically they can still dud me because one of the T&Cs is that you can't try to apply the code if you know it is not valid, but that's getting close to the line).

  • You win some and you lose some. In my case, you lose some and then you win some.

Last time I was unlucky: I paid for an item and less than 12 hours later, the recent 10% coupon came out. I even went as far as to ask the seller to refund my money (several hundred dollars) so that I could repay using the coupon (didn't work).

This time I was lucky: I bought several hundred dollars worth of stuff before the 15% coupon OzBargain deal got posted and the seller was timely enough to send an invoice (pretty important step). Then the 15% coupon came out and I used it without hesitation and without delay. Good thing I did too, 'cos now you got this shitstorm. So basically I used a coupon on something I was going to buy anyway, so absolutely no chance of buyer's remorse. Can't necessarily say the same for people who impulse bought something because of the coupon though.

  • I contacted Ebay online Chat last night, I paid full price and they are refunding the difference back within 21 days. I didn't buy a couple of things I planned too as I was in a rush by that stage, plus my internet was dropping out again, I had the items in my Cart, but they disappeared, so I am happy with the main 2 items I needed. Ebay told me the deal was cut short because of the overwhelming response to it.
