Item stolen from box during transit - possible issue with buying from JD.com?

Hey All,

Recently took advantage of this https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/224768 and bought some Xiaomi Piston 3 earphones from JD.com (i.e. from China)

My package arrived yesterday and I noticed a small-ish hole ripped in the side which had been taped over. Opening the package revealed: some bubble plastic, an empty and ripped Xiaomi earphone box and… nothing else - the earphones had been stolen from the box during transit. Thought I: no huge loss, only cost $14, I guess it happens… right?

But when I checked the transit label which had been stuck to outside of the box by the Australian on-shipper (in NSW) it clearly states the contents of the box in the description field as: "Xiaomi Piston Earphones".

This is just patent stupidity, the likes of which I've never seen in more than 10 years of buying and shipping stuff from the net. I've never had a parcel opened and looted, mainly because the contents are always very vaguely described and hence not so tempting.

So be aware, especially if you plan to order anything more expensive than $15 from JD.com!

    how did you pay?
    CC or paypal? or other?
you can easily claim back against CC or paypal for non-receipt of item

    • For sure, I'm trying to resolve the problem directly with JD before I claim back through paypal.

This is more of a warning to others that JD.com doesn't practice safe-shipping :)

how is it not "safe-shipping"? bubblewrap outside the box sounds like safe packaging to me.

international shipping requires that the sender fill out a cn22. the "detailed description of contents" should be as accurate as possible.

    this is from ap's cn22.
"the contents, even if a gift or sample, should be described fully and accurately. failure to do so may delay the delivery and inconvenience the addressee or even lead to seizure by authorities overseas."

    edit.
some of my customers has had their items seized by customs/quarantine because the cn22 description didn't match the items labels.

Sorry, maybe I've not described it well, the bubble-wrap was still inside the box. I was trying to explain that clearly everything was taken out of the box through the small hole ripped in the side, the earphones were stolen and the packaging was then replaced.

By "safe-shipping" I'm talking about not effectively painting a huge target on the side of the box - there is a huge difference between providing an accurate description of the type of item, and listing the make and model of the item inside the box.

If you're shipping an iPhone, the description: "mobile telephone" is accurate and and doesn't provide anywhere as tempting a target as describing it as "Apple iPhone 6", which is almost guaranteed to get stolen in transit. No?
