      As discussed in another thread, it's not confirmed this $200 trade in credit is available for devices other than the S6 Edge.

      But even without it, the 32Gb 5X is cheaper by a few dollars at JB.

      Nexus 5x is $10 difference, for Play store warranty handling I would pay that gap. The service is fantastic, new phone sent out, then old one sent back, have had my Nexus 5 replaced 2x from them, once for accidental screen break once for a faulty power button. Pretty much no questions asked. With the latest claim they told my warranty is now 09/2016 as it went off the 1st Replacement date, which makes it almost 3 Years since purchased. So as a result I am always buying my Nexus' from the Play Store.

        but they replace them with refurbs… don't get too excited… the plays store has a 2 yr warrantee, general stores usually only have one though… (well they did with mine a couple of months ago)

          First replacement was brand new, second was a refurbished but also was done after the Nexus 5 was a deleted product, so obviously milage varies, my return was perfect, couldn't tell it was a refurb. So, still happy as the proverbial pig. Had another guy at work who had a Nexus 5 on contract through Telstra business, took 4 weeks for repair (power button issue), and was offered the token "loan" phone from Telstra Business for the duration, wasn't bad service, just not the same, can't speak to JB's policy, but imagine it's pretty similar.

        Not always great. I returned my 6p case to the store and it took them 2 months and lots of chasing up to get my money back :/

        I received phenomenal service from them too. Was getting screen flickers on my old nexus and they had a replacement to me in 72hrs

        Replacing for accidental screen break? Wow It's great! You happen to know if there's any chance Samsung would do the same for my Galaxy Note 4? Bought it from JB six months ago, cracked the screen a few days ago

          Even the Google screen replacement isn't guaranteed…Some people haven't had the same outcome. Pretty sure Samsung is a hard no on warranty screen replacement for damage caused by accidental breakage.

          Samsung are horrible, had an S3 still in warranty.
          Did the upgrade to android 4.4.4 the fac reset to get stuck in a boot loop.
          Sent away wanting them to only re flash android and they refused as my screen had a slight chip in it.

          The OS having issues was caused by a CHIP on the side (not on the digitiser) of the screen.
          I gave up after arguing, rooted and flashed a custom rom myself (voiding warranty).

          My experience = Samsung will pull any technique to avoid 'repairing' at their cost (they wanted over $200 to re load their touchwiz infested android).

        It's worth every penny if the warranty covers accidental screen breakage. Would someone kindly confirm? May consider dumbing the iPhones for the whole family to Nexus when time comes up. Thought min $280+ for glass replacement is a bit rich even It does not come out from my own pocket.

        Can you "FaceTime" on Android? sorry have been out of touch.

          If you mean video call then yes, you can do this through Google's default messaging app, Hangouts, which can be used for SMS, MMS and video calls to others using Hangouts. It works over WiFi and your data connection.

      Reading through whirlpool you really see polarising opinions about Google; their handling in some instances is brilliant and others downright poor - that's customer service for you.

      My Google warranty experience has been exceptional. I had a fault with the GPS: they shipped me a refurb and then sent a courier to pick up my old phone (so I had overlap to transition from the faulty to the new). Then the refurb developed a glitch of its own and then sent me a brand new sealed-in-box with charger and all device and again I had a couple of week overlap to transition.

      (I'm using an Xperia Z2 at the moment because of the better reception, battery life, and camera, but I would think long and hard about buying a Nexus from anywhere but the Google play store).

      (I should point out that I got a new warranty when they sent out the refurb. When it went belly up, I was outside 24-months from purchasing the original phone)

        Google warranty from the Playstore has been excellent. I'm glad they learned from Apple on how to provide customer service.

        I wish Samsung attempt to learn also.

          @Trishool: Before Apple, phone hardware companies were pretty pathetic, Apple changed it all. My dead iPhone was replaced within 2 days via post. I believe Google are doing the same due to the success of the iPhones. Now on the other hand if you try contacting Adwords or say Google Postini, it actually takes days or weeks for a reply.. sigh

          Even better, you can make an appointment with an Apple store.

          If they can find a fault, they will replace the device on the spot.

          Even if they don't find a fault and you insist, they will replace it to keep you happy.

          They have class leading customer service and were the first to offer this level of service with electronic goods. No shame in learning from them.

          I'm happy with Hisense customer service, and they are a cheap Chinese no name brand from what I can tell. They gave me a full refund on a 2 year old fridge that decided to stop working. That makes them better than Samsung from what I can tell.

      I really cannot fault my Nexus 5. I feel like performance has improved with the recent updates (normally performance decreases with updates to make people update their phones!). The only reason to update I think would be for the camera. But how much better is the 5X camera?

        3 reasons I'm upgrading from my Nexus 5.
        - Camera, just terrible.
        - Battery, not great at all.
        - Storage is too small (Not really the phone's fault).

          I had the 5 and upgraded to the 6P for the first two reasons, and also GPS was crap on my 5. No regrets.

        I went from a Nexus 5 to the Nexus 5X (ice colour, 32GB version - from Telstra). The camera is really, really good. Like, really good. Yes, the Nexus 5 could take good pictures if you got really lucky and were in perfect light but the 5X pictures are pretty much (to my eye) as good as my partner's Note 5 photos.

        Cons - sometimes it seems slower than the Nexus 5 and while some put this down to RAM, I don't see why - my Nexus 5 flew even running Marshmallow. I suspect it's the configuration of the 808 processor (2 fast, 4 slow cores) vs the 'old-school' Nexus 5 (4 fast-ish cores) and possibly thermal throttling issues.

        Overall though the slowdowns are rare, just not as rare as they seemed with the Nexus 5.

          It's better than the N5 but not as good as I'd hoped for given the 2700mAh battery versus the 2300mAh or whatever the 5 has. It's hard to say for certain given useage differences but I'd say the 5X lasts about 10% to 15% longer in my experience.

      I thought about it but they don't do much more except which version of abroad they support. If you already have a 1080p screen and all 4G band support.
      Think my Samsung s5 survives until something compelling comes on the market

        Yeah the S5 is still ok. New phones have better cameras but most lose the micro SD/replaceable battery so might as well stick with what is tried and true for another 6 months or so.

        Personally, I think popping on a cynanogen marshmallow rom in a few months will breathe new life into the phone.

      I wan't to replace my Nexus 5, but I actually don't think there is anything worthy out there at all.

      An upgrade to a 5x is hardly an upgrade at all, and given what it would cost me to upgrade, it's just not worth it. Plus I''d lose my wireless charging which I love.

          It charges at 5V/3A (15W) which is not too far off most QC chargers (18W).

          For those downvoting. I put QI in my bedside table and desks at work. Very convenient and I don't have to worry about wearing down the port and cables in the long term. Quick Charge 2.0 for obvious reasons… charging within 30 minutes.

          I used this deal to upgrade from Nexus 5 to Nexus 5x. Accepted no more wireless charging (disappointed about it, but not end of the world), but also uses USB type-C port. So it's a double whammy. Your existing Micro-USB cables are now useless. Also, the wall charger is also Type-C, so you get a Type-C to Type-C cable out of the box. I don't have a PC with a Type-C port, so I had to go and buy a Type-C to USB-A cable, so that I could connect to my PC and do backups/restores and transfer files.

        I commented above but I had the same feelings re: my Nexus 5. It's still a really good phone and running Marshmallow you are running a newer version of Android than virtually all of the latest 'flagship' phones (other than other Nexus devices obviously). It's also the perfect size for me although I manage the 5X OK - it's just a little bit more unwieldy to use one-handed at times.

        If wireless charging is important to you I can see why you'd hold off and yes, the 5X isn't much of an upgrade in 'real world' terms in regards to both specifications and 'real world' performance. The Nexus 5X if anything seems a bit slower (at times) but it's still very, very smooth most of the time. That said, the fast-charging really does work well.

      Try finding another 5" wireless charging phone with stock android though… No options.

      So many bad phones out now :(. I am really really disappointed with the entire android ecosystem lately. But there aren't really any other alternatives since IOS doesn't even allow web browsers other than webkit.

      I upgraded from a Nexus 5 to a Xperia Z5 Compact back when they could be had for around $600. So from that subjective perspective:
      Pros:
      - Excellent camera
      - Theoretically water resistant (has the rating for it, but Sony won't cover water damage)
      - Excellent battery life
      - QC 2 charging
      Negs:
      - Non-stock firmware (Sony bloatware apps)
      - Non-current firmware
      - Some annoying behaviour:
      — Notifications not always visible when locked even if set to display.
      — Notifications frequently hidden for background apps like spotify so need to open app instead of using notification bar.
      — Music frequently doesn't stop playing when headphones unplugged.
      — Occasional issues syncing with my bluetooth hands free: google nav can play through phone speaker when connected to hands free.

      Personally if I knew of the above and if the Nexus 5X is an upgraded Nexus 5 with much improved batter life and better performance (my major gripes with the Nexus 5 by the end) I would buy the 5X, but that's just my opinion.

        Additional Sony neg: they don't really test their firmware before releasing it.
        I had to force my Z1 back to Android 4.4, because their 5.1.1 update increased power consumption, to the point where it wouldn't even charge fully overnight. And on both of these Z1 phones I bougth brand new, the camera app would crash/freeze straight away (literally directly out of the box). Awesome hardware, but Sony ROM's suck. And yes, they add more and more Sony-ware to it.

      Just right up your own pros and cons like zblackeagle did.

      For me it'd be the water resistance on the Z5 being the main pro. The Z5 is a little uncomfortable to hold vs the Nexus 5. The Nexus 5 will get updates first and consistently while Sony and Samsung tend to cut updates after the phone has been out for a year.

    Anyone switched from a G4 to N5X care to offer an opinion?

    I have a G4 (bought for $440 on an earlier OZB deal so can be sold at minimal loss) and can't stand LGs software. Plus I can't bootload unlock it to install CM (Taiwan model).

    G4 is also bigger than I'd like.
