New Phone to replace Galaxy S4 (bigger screen this time)

OK my Galaxy S4 phone is getting a bit tired. Still in great condition, but not handling what I need it to without some lag at times.

I'm looking for a bigger screen (Note size or thereabouts) as I spend a Lot of time watching media on this screen.

Don't want to spend a lot, but do want good video performance and not for the phone to behave like it's 5 yrs old in one years time.

I'm not married to Samsung, but I don't want to have to replace chinese firmware to make it useable.

Happy with a bit of fiddling around to get it working, but want it to have Telstra's 4G frequencies as well.

Any suggestions?

    Your post is…really interesting.

    Let me translate it:
"handling what I need it" I guess no windows phone?
"I'm looking for a bigger screen (Note size or thereabouts)" = around 5.7" screen for "watching media"
    "Don't want to spend a lot" = i guess $500-600?
"not for the phone to behave like it's 5 yrs old in one years time" = lag free with no bloatware.
"I don't want to have to replace Chinese firmware" no Chinese phone.
"Happy with a bit of fiddling around to get it working" = but refer to last point,no custom rom
    "Telstra's 4G frequencies" = supports 2100MHz (B1), 1800MHz (B3), 2600MHz (B7), 900MHz (B8) and 700MHz (B28)

    My recommendation:
Motorola Google Nexus 6 $549 note: over one year old model.

If you do not mind 5.2" screen i will suggest Nexus 5x From $479 (Doing special atm)

PS: Have you think about getting an ipad air 1 for $469 and keep your old phone?

Depends on what your budget is. Best bet would probably be the LG G4.

  • Note 3 is cheap especially second hand

  • the S6 edge jbhifi deal?
