Is there a Microsoft 40% Cashback for keyboards etc. this year?

I think it happened in February last year. Can someone inform if it is due again this year please? Thanks in advance.

  • Pffft….screw the cashback. Get a mechanical keyboard with cherry MX switches for like $100 from MSY. You won't look back at shitty MS keyboards.
THe new logitech orion keyboard with omron key switches and without the numpad is also a nice one.

I have the Logitech G910 Orion Spark and I love it.

    • Thanks, but I am keener on wireless - probably a keyboard/mouse combo.

      Oops, wrong thread.

I love my mechanical keyboard but that doesn't mean I'd want to take them around to library or anywhere in general (they are too heavy to carry around comfortably and they are fairly loud). Plus, some people are not into mechanical keyboards. I love mine, but I once got scolded by someone for sharing a bargain on them, I assume he's sick and tired of people recommending mech keyboard.

MS keyboards are alright imo. MS is fairly lenient on hardware warranties from what I've seen and they are sturdy (have a wedge wireless keyboard).

      • Wasn't talking to you. This thread is a month old. He has his new keyboard already and isn't planning on taking it around with him.

You were generalising non-mechanical keyboards as shitty (or maybe you were saying MS keyboard products in general, that said, I've always found MS keyboards to be at least average) based on one aspect of mechanical keyboard that many (probably most, but definitely not all) like. I simply wanted to chip in an opinion to the OP.

        • @Oversimplified:

again, this is a month old thread. OP got a keyboard last month.

@cDNA: Didn't see that bit, I was writting my comment probably before you made that change to the comment. Because this post popped up on live feed, I automatically thought it was reasonably new post, which I should stop doing (I end up necroing posts too much).

Anyways, where does it say he got a new keyboard though?

        • @cDNA: Thank you but no, I am still making do with my aging keyboard until I find an inspiring deal.

      • Why would you take a keyboard to the library?

        • To type up stuff while reading stuff? Many reports and articles are not available online. Some people go to library because the tranquility helps with writting up essays and reports etc.

I gave library as an example as it was the first thing that popped up when I was thinking about places outside your home that you need to be quiet at. I simply wanted to point out that mechanical keyboards are fairly loud.

Plus, they, well plated ones, are usually heavier than membrane or other non-mechanical keyboards. Not exactly good for portability imo.

        • @Oversimplified: do you take an entire desktop computer there? Or just plug your keyboard into a library PC?

Edit: I do agree though, they are heavy and loud which makes them impractical for some uses.

        • @magicmoose: Tablets? Bluetooth keyboards are fairly common nowadays and many Windows tablets, or any tablets in general, don't have a dedicated keyboard. I've seen plenty of people carrying around their iPad for basic document editing and typing so I assume it's not uncommon.

I used to use my Android tablet like that, it's alright for basic stuff like ozbargaining, taking notes or writing emails to someone. I sometimes used Surface Pro 1 with a bluetooth keyboard because it takes up less space on desk and allow you to position your keyboard to places that you can't with the type cover.

        • @Oversimplified: well obviously a 3kg mech keyboard isn't suitable as a tablet keyboard, but then neither is a G19… they are different devices.

OP didn't mention he/she was looking for a portable/tablet keyboard so the suggestions reflected that. Also, OP mentioned a KB/mouse combo, suggesting home use.

        • @magicmoose: I gave library as one example. I could talk about late night usage (I used to type at night, thought about getting those o-rings installed because my gf couldn't sleep well from the noises I was making) or shared work environment etc, where noises you make from typing can bother others.

I do like mechanical keyboards, that said trashing everything else was too far imo. That's what got me to comment.

I hope somebody has a cashback/decent deal on keyboards soon. Just got my hands on the Steam Link and need to grab a new wireless keyboard, preferably backlit.
