At 9 times the price of the popular 1080p G1W (-H or -C capacitor model) that have been posted here many times around $50 (plus $20 for a 32GB SD card), what does this camera do extra ?

Please clarify what "dual-save" and "road safety warning" features do?

Not saying its not a good deal for this particular item, just wondering what it offers for the 800% premium? GPS data and wifi to phone are ho-hum features.. might be useful to some.. not important for me.

  • +1

Title is misleading as they normally give you free shipping when you spend over $50…

    • +2

We have free shipping across our store for everything over $50..

      • +2

        That's what I said…

        • +2

When we leave it out of the title people get upset :/

        • +1

          @autoss:

Just say Delivered rather than free shipping

        • +9

          @cwongtech: Noted and done thankyou!

  • +1

Thanks for the post but thats too expensive for a Dash cam.

    • I recommend people instead to buy the excellent Street Guardian SG9665GC for around $250 if you want a premium dash cam.

      • Is that the best Dashcam available for the price? How would they cope with the North Queensland heat?

        • +1

SG9665GC uses a super capacitor instead of Lipo battery, so it can withstand Australian summer better.

    • +1

      Hi HardyBro,

This is a premium camera we do have a range of cheaper camera's as well!

  • Safety Camera Alert

Does this detect all speed cameras or just fixed speed cameras?

  • Safety camera alert only for USA and UK?

    • If that is the case then it is just as misleading as Apple advertising in Australia that their iPad 4 had LTE 4G.

    • The red light camera and speed camera database covers Australia and is updated every quarter with a free update!

  • +2

No offense OP, but I am sure, in my hood, the camera will be taken in 3 days with my window smashed. lol

    • +5

Perhaps we can help you out with a car alarm :D

      • @autoss:

        1080p Full HD / 30fps / DUAL SAVE™ / Road Safety Warning System / Safety Camera Alert / Built-in WiFi / Built-in GPS / OPTIONAL REAR 1080p CAMERA

Does this feature work in Australia?

The Safety Camera Alert database in Thinkware Dash Cams contains a comprehensive coverage of safety cameras across regions including
North America (approximately 10,000 camera locations across the region) and the United Kingdom (approximately 18,000 locations).
The safety camera database is constantly updated to ensure that it is accurate and up-to-date.

    • LOL @ begopa2003

      Now… that's a fkn classic. Funny one.

      • Not a laughing matter, happened to me cost $189 dash cam and $420 to driver side window :( oh and cost of SD card.

        • Maybe someone can start developing codes to GPS track the device.

  • +1

Are the "lane departure warning system" and "front collission warning" any good?
I can see people turning them off because of frequent annoying false positives.

Other features like GPS speed cam alerts do not belong in a dashcam, but in your navigation gps device, with online database.

the recent $50 Swann dashcam was a good deal! (normally $229, has most same features.)

$420!!!! Bit too early for April fools. Dont settle for this, get a mini 805 or mini 806 instead from diggcams.com for a fraction of the $, highly recommend either one and I've bought a few for family and friends and they love them too.

    • The mini doesn't do speed/red light alerts nor come with memory.

      • The mini 806 can hold dual 128gb micro cards, and it comes with a 32gb card.

    • I have two of these mini & surpringly both survived in 44c in melb few days back. Costs just above $100 i think.. HD quality & GPS.. For me not sure why i really need to spend this much even for premium..

      • True that, mine have survived a few Sydney summers with no probs. The ones from harvey norman and dickies that I tried were an absolute joke compared to the mini's.

  • the amazon reviews appeared average.

  • Better wait for this one fro US$79.99: http://elproducente.com/xiaomi-yi-dashboard-camera/

  • I did consider this dashcam. Drawing points for me are speed camera warning and parking mode. It's one of the most expensive camera's in the market though, and am concerned someone will break in to steal it. Will prob end up going with the SG9665GC as it seems to be a good compromise on quality and cost.

  • how long does the battery last when recording while the ignition is off?
